Exactly, I too have bought B6 and B8 dampers from bilstein retailers, and they have been as per demlots photo, probably been 3 years since I last handled newly purchased dampers (which came from ECP) but the info on the website was the same as it is now.

Just dug out this old photo that simon posted years ago,
Standard damper top (I think its a sachs but similar to B4) note it is shagged and not at the full extend
B6 middle
B8 bottom

I still have the boxes in the attic from the first B8's I bought/fitted to my old 4 door years ago, pic below of the damper

Why would they change the B8/B6 definition after so many years? I cant see it myself.

There is too many mixed messages on what is the right choice!
Here's a thread with my Touring, with some pics of it on B6s, if it helps you:

For my Tech1 when I tried to order Bilstein B6 Sports via BMW Park Lane Classic they didn't have them only Boge which are for Tech2s. Pacer had to get Bilstein B6 Sports for me from a different automotive supplier. I got brand new M Technic springs all round though :-)

the billy part no: on mine is 12090 P36 0335H1

Do believe as from my local parts place B6 are not made any more superseded by the B8's

These were off a M3
