I know I can make this go out by connecting the yellow/green and white/blue wires in the sensor loom. But is this safe? Should I do it with a fusible link or just connect them together? Also there is a 3rd brown wire in the loom that doesn't appear to be connected to anything at the sensor end. What's best to do with this?

if you after safe option and you dont often look at your brakes it will be the best to get sensor from ebay ,they only 3pounds....

Sadly, not an option in my case - E36 M3 front brake setup. I could splice in the E36 sensor I suppose but then it would still throw an error missing the rear...

For now I've joined the wires via a 7.5 amp fuse to be sure and insulated the end of the brown wire. This showed no power and no continuity and it definitely wasn't part of the sensor plug so it seems it really wasn't connected to anything...
