Identifying 327i bottom end . Trying to work out what the bottom end of my engine is . Making a stroker low comp which bottom end is the right one ? Have the 885 I head [/quote]

I've got a 327 lump in the garage, did you want me to read off any part numbers ?

ok on the block at the top just under the cylinder head it has

these are cast into the block in large font
at the bottom by the sump it has
20726250
which has been stamped on a flat section
sorry I could only get to the inlet side

I have read it but can't find the answer I'm after can any 327i block be used as there is a few different type

There's no such thing as a 327i. There's a 325e, which has the BMW official 2.7 engine (M20B27), and there are the three "home-made" 2.7 permutations listed in the link Ben provided. Click on the links in that article and you'll get all your answers - it's been covered dozens of times.
The actual block is identical for the 325i and 325e cars. It's the crank and pistons that create the difference in displacement.
