To run in http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60229-mille ... n-oil.aspx

Once run in a decent synthetic, what kind of power are you aiming at? And what kind of use will the car see, road, track, drag, drift etc?

Cheers

Hi

I would say a good 5w-40 would probably be the way to go, unless you are getting high (over 125C) oil temps, then a 10w-50 is the best choice.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-659-10w-50.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. They are all really good oils and up to dealing with the harsh conditions of trackdays.

I've always thought that the car should be run in for the first 1000 miles, some people reckon 250-300 is enough

I think I'd go with good 5w-40 or 10w-40, but if you get it running and find that the oil temps are getting over 125C a lot of the time, change to a 10w-50.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-647-engine-oils.aspx

Fuchs Pro S, Redline, Gulf Competition, Millers CFS and Motul 300V are the ones I'd consider.

Cheers

after about 3000 miles i had a big end bearing pick up and knackered my crank do you think this could be an oil related problem ? getting to hot etc ? this was on a rd not on a track too

Hello Mr Oilman, I have a 1990 316i LUX M40. Ive Always used 10w40 semi synthetic and was wondering is this correct as I cover around 8000 miles a year maybe more. It is changed every 12 months with a wynns engine flush thingy to remove old oil?

But I am beginning to think if I should be changing it every 6 Months?
And use 5w40 Synthetic?

Cheers, Tan.

You need an MTF for the gearbox and I would go with the Redline MTL, Amsoil MTF or Fuchs Sintofluid. The Millers EP 75w-80 is a good cheaper alternative

is it better to use a different viscosity oil in the diff as to the gearbox then?
I have a PBMW race car, 4.10 open diff (not lsd), and the standard Gertrag 240 5 spd box. Both take a poor old beating everytime im out!
What would you recomend in this instance, and I see from earlier posts that 1.25Ltr is needed for gearbox but what about the amount needed for the Diff??

Hi there! I'm across the pond in Canada, and will be buying a 325e from my mate. It currently has 227K KM on it.

My current ride is a VW Jetta 2.0L and I've been using Shell Rotella T6 5w40 during the summer and the T5 0w40 for winter (both full synthetic) for over a year, and have been very happy with it. Would these be good oils for the eta for the same use? I'll be covering a lot of miles in the Bimmer (in my VW, I've been consistently over 40K KM for the last three years).

And the change interval should be what? I was reading earlier you recommending an 8-10K mile change (12.8-16K KM). I drive mostly highway miles... what should be an approximate interval?

Thanks!

Hi folks,

With winter here and plenty of cold starts, perhaps it's time to consider changing the oil that you use in your car.

Does your antifreeze need changing?
Is your gearshift okay when cold?
Do you need something to protect your car from the weather?

Let us know if you need any advice, we are here to help. You can call us on 01209 202944, email us at sales@opieoils.co.uk, or just ask here.

Cheers

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and you will find those through the link below.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS NT/CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Shell Helix, Fuchs Supersyn and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

As a budget choice, a 10w-40 will be fine and I would either go for the Fuchs Syn MC, Shell Helix, Millers XSS/Trident or Motul 6100

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-657-10w-40.aspx
