Bonnet support Mechanism.

Hi All.

Im having some trouble with the mechanism that keeps bonnet in the raised position. The bonnet releases and opens ok. My problem is with the mechanism itself. In the diagram below, Part 7 is attached to a bracket. Can anyone tell me if this bracket can be bought or is it part of the main skeleton of the car?

Or is there another solution, (Aside from using a length of wood to keep the bonnet open )

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.

So the bracket that the support attaches to has broken/gone missing?

Bracket got damaged, the mechanism became stiff and I'd say someone who wasnt familiar with closing the bonnet didnt close it too gently. Best thing to do might be to take a pic and post it.

Any chance it's just the gas strut that needs replacing? That's what holds the bonnet up. Part #22.

No Ranchero, Definitely not the strut. Strut seems ok. I compress the strut and it extends no problem.

Thanks for the pic. The part thats damaged on mine appears to be part of the structure of the car. I've drawn an arrow over on your pic to show where my damage is.



Might have to get a piece made up and welded in. I dont see that bracket on "real oem" or anything like it. Anyone who has trouble here seems to have faulty struts.

My bonnet wasnt closed right and that little bracket came away from the body work and got twisted when the bonnet came dowm into the closed and locked position.

Be suprised if that bracket is NLA to be honest,just a question of finding it!

Not too sure what to seach under,though.

I managed to find things like the bracket that holds the relays on proper engined cars and the bracket at the foot of the washer bottle,but the one you need is 4'' down from the top of the inner wing,and about nine and a half inches(to a centre)from the washer bottle securing thingy,if that helps with fabrication!

So it's bracketed to both the wheel housing and the inner wing....

Strange that it should break/go missing,possible folding stay fault?

No sign of it on Real OEM, it looks like it broke due to the L-Shaped mechanism (that the shock strut attaches to) wasn't lubricated at the joints. I'll post up a pic later.
