service light reset

hey all, just been in the garage catchin up on some bits on the m20 2.7, gave it a service too and tried to reset the service light by jumping pins 7, 19 as stated in the forum before but nothing happens :( the multipulg i have is the big one with the screw-off top as apposed to the smaller plug with the pop-off cap. any routine i sould follow while resetting it? thanks.

You have to turn on the ignition and wait for a few seconds, I think it resets different things depending on how long you wait iirc.

Use the jumper wire and ignition on for 5-6 seconds. That resets them all 8)
A 2 door e30 with 8 cylinders, what could be better winkeye :D

ok thanks, ill try it in the mornin. ill have to grab another reset tool at some point, even if the jump works. i dont feel great about jumping electrics.. if i slip i wouldnt wonna fry anythin :mad: but ill try it and get back to you guys.

You fit a wire across before you turn the ignition on, no danger of frying anything!

A few seconds resets service light, ~8 seconds resets inspection light according to this:
