Its the one of the big bulbs with the orange casing around it. Just need to take the cluster out and its pretty straight forward to find out which one it is.
Ps: You dont have to take the steering wheel off to get the cluster out. just a bit of patience and you'll find the nack of it.

It's just possible to change some of the bulbs by reaching up under the dash, after emoving the panel above the driver's legs.

never normally disagree mr mooooore but i would say that not practicable to take bulbs out with dash in place unless you have allready taken dash out and haver a good idea where they are.

so take off the steering wheel (not essential but makes life easy-prise off the BMW logo with screwdriver, or pull off the horn panel on Tech 2, and undo nut, pull off)

undo two screws at top of instument cluster surround (look above the speedo)

pull off surround.

remove the panel under the steering wheel

prise off trim between steering wheel coloumn and instrument panel by removing the two nuts behind

undo the 4 screws now visible after that panel is removed, undo the two screws at the top of the panel

pull the instrument cluster slightly toward you from the top side first, you need to pull the two top tabs down.

make a note of what wires and connectors go where and pull them out.

remove the white and blue multi sockets (use a small screwdriver to disengage the plasitc locking tab)

pull the cluster fully out.

change the bulbs

put it back in

have a cup of tea.

write to e30zone to show how clever you are

I said "some" of the bulbs, and "just possible" - I didn't say it was easy, and yes, is does help if you have a spare cluster on the seat beside you to help you navigate.
You will probably end up taking the cluster out, but it's worth a quick try from underneath first.
