Hi, anyone got a wiki guide or similar for adjusting the tappets on an L - Reg E30 318i...what tools / kit etc would i need to do the job...mine sound a bit like a tank at the moment and want to sort it as its not the most fun sound........
any help appreciated....

they are hydraulic i.e no adjustment

its not a bad job to do really and you could have it done in 1-2 days on the drive.

will probably cost about £500 top end if you do it yourself depending where you get the parts i.e new camshaft - tappets - timing belt + tensioner and any other assorted bits.

any idea how hard it would be to transplant a 320 lump in there....my mate has one lying around in good nick for £50, would i just need the lump / gearbox and ecu or complete loom etc

im not 100% sure about the loom for a 4 pot so i would get it anyway but you will want to change the suspension and diff to six pot spec and you need the chip out of a 6pot cluster for the rev counter

all in it could be done on a weekend on the drive but you always find bits that you want to renew so leave some cash to budget for it.
