Hi Guys
I was driving yesterday and a burning smell followed by smoke came from under the passenger dashboard. The smoke eventually stopped but now the wipers aren't working. I am no mechanic. I suck at this kind of thing but I'm thinking the wiper motor has burnt out? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I drive an e30 316i 1990

Was the smell like burning plastic? This might indicate wiring, rather than the motor burning. If you pull off the black plastic grill on the passenger side under the windscreen, you will have access to the wiper motor housing.
It's held on by three (?) tags top and bottom. A strong fingernail, or thin bladed screwdriver covered in pvc tape (to protect your paint) will help get this grill off.

If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

poss wiper motor burnt out or wiper fues amps to high ie someones fitted the wrong fuse in the passed.
then a problem has resulted in the wiring burning instead of the fuse blowing.
for starters check the correct fuse is fitted.
then make any repairs.
o also check your bulk head for rot.my go at the top of the front wheel arch and write up behind the glovey where the servo attached to the bulkhead.
any water getting in may have affected the wiring at the top of the glovey under the plastic cover.
good luck mate
