Hi all,
Finally getting round to doing some small rust repairs on my car. I found what appeared to be a penny sized hole on my scuttle panel, but by the time I'd cut out all the rot, said hole was considerably larger!
Problem is, the hole is now quite close to the windscreen. I was hoping I might just get away without taking the windscreen out if I weld the patch in a series of small runs or tacks, leaving to cool in between, while holding a wet cloth on the seal to absorb heat.
Think its possible, or am I realistically looking at a windscreen and dash out job?

Looks doable to me, without taking the screen out.

Yep, its pretty thin there! Only been welding for a few weeks, so might well end up making a few holes of my own! Going to practice some thin stuff on an old bonnet first I think!n1tr0_9 wrote:Shouldnt be a problem. You can put much heat in anywaya s you'll just blow holes! Good luck

Original link works now!
That is plenty far enough away from the screen not to cause problems, but even if it wasn't, E30 screens are extremely easy to remove and replace.
Make sure that you cover the screen completely, as both welding spatter and grinding sparks will seriously damage glass.
