I've had my Touring in storage for 6 months with the battery disconnected. When I started it up the other day and brought it back into service the alarm started making a strange noise. I've had it switched off (with the key) while the car was stored, and when I switched it back on, it made a constant groaning noise. I thought maybe it had a back-up battery and had gone flat, so I left it off and drove a couple of hours home, but it was the same when I switched it on again. I've left it off to try again in a couple of days, but hope it's not knackered because I can't use the remote locking........
If it's shot, are the sirens easy to replace?
groaning alarm....

i've removed a couple of dealer fitted alarms and they both had lots of wires going in and out of the siren, where as most aftermarket ones just have 12v+ in and a trigger wire which the alarm module grounds to earth to make it wail.
so it might be a case of replacing the whole system

I take it this is an original genuine alarm?
The battery pack in the siren housing has probably died as a result of being left without a charging source.
You have two ways of sorting this: 1) Replace the battery pack - Look at replacement battery packs for emergency escape lighting and you should find one to fit, or
2)Open up the sounder case, remove the battery and cut all the wires that come into the case, except the ones that go to the key switch. In fact, if you identify the two switch wires, you can just link these at the plug and socket for the sounder, tucked up behind the glovebox, and remove the underbonnet box altogether.

Yeah, I'd quite like it all working as it should. It's a standard fit item. I guessed it had an internal battery that was finished. I'll try and replace the battery first before doing anything more drastic. Thanks for the help.
