Hi guys, My fan belt recently snapped on my 325i
Fitted new belt this morning but its still screaming!!javascript:emoticon(':(')
when i looked the pulley on the fan wasnt turning
could be a knacked water pump??

did you not think to spin all pulleys relating to the belt before fitting a new one ????????
take it off and investigate properly, the solution will be obvious.......

remove fan assy( cack handed thread warning !! ),
remove 4 x M6 bolts-pulley off
remove 3 x M8 bolts= pump off
remove all old gasket remains
refit new pump(check its right before fitting ! )
refill and bleed coolant.
refit viscous fan assy.
Enjoy !

Before you dismantle anything, what's the state of your antifreeze?
I started one of mine about two weeks ago, and had the same thing! Cured by a bit of hot water over the front of the engine to shift the ice!

Topped up with antifreeze a couple of weeks ago but
haven't driven the car for a while!!
I managed to free up the pulley but when running it's
making a lot of noise, Sounds like scraping/knocking!

In that case, I think I might agree that you need a new pump!!
It's not quite as easy as Ant says though! There is a spring and a locating pin for it, for the timing belt tensioner, which locate into a recess in the edge of the pump.
Locating this spring in the pump and at the same time trying to keep the bolt holes in the pump and its gasket lined up while replacing the bolts is not easy.
If the cambelt and tensioner are anywhere near needing replacing, this would be a good time to do it.
I would also undo the two self tapers and two hose clips that hold the radiator in, and lift that out of the car for improved access.
