Hi all,

I have a small problem with my central locking. It's stopped working!!!

When I push the door lock up and down on the drivers side I can hear what sounds like a relay (or solenoid) opening/shutting. But when I do this on the passenger door I don't hear the sound. Also I am having to do a bit of jiggery pokery to get the boot open. And the main issue is I can't get into the fuel filler flap.

I have checked the under bonnet fuses and they are all ok...

Can anyone please advise?

Hi ya

It sounds like the relay, located in the drivers footwell behind the speaker, about £20 of Ebay,
but if your pass door sticking it could have come apart inside the trim needs to come apart realy

Thanks for that... but why is a relay £20, are they specific for the job or something?

The one on the drivers side clicks twice when I press the door lock mechanism down. Is this correct?

Hi,

Two main things to check, whip the relay out from the drivers footwell and pop the cover off it to check the thermal fuse in the lower left corner. If a small metal strip has come away then it has overheated and popped its fuse. very common. Also check for power at the red / white wire as this wire goes via the drivers door loom for NO REASON and often corrodes in the connector due to electroloysis. The petrol flap can be unlocked manually via the boot, remove the trim and reach in there to pull back the bolt.

If the relay is clicking and nothing happening I can almost guarentee the thermal fuse has gone.
It may of gone, however, due to the solonoid on the passengers side.

On a side note, when my drivers door solonoid went pop, I somehow managed to fit a audi one in its place, the mounting holes and dimensions were perfect and all it needed was some jiggery pokery on the plug side of things. Same signals and voltages but solonoid based rather than motor based.

Thanks for the detailed reply, Could you expand a little on the fuel filler flap? I get the basic jist, but which bit do I have to pull to retract the lock mechanism?

I must add that the car has stood untouched for several monts, so I'm assuming that when I've put a charged battery on and poked and prodded at the car it's sort of "disturbed" it if you know what I mean.....

Quick update, I've just been out and undone the whole fuel flap lock assembly, slid it back and opened it. Put a gallon of fuel in then slid the mechanism back and re-locked it. Jobs a good 'en until I can get a relay, and perhaps a new passenger side solenoid.

Unlikely to be a problem with the locking ECU. Far more likely to be a problem with the power feed to it.

Thanks for the info, will take a look over the holiday in the daylight. Trouble is at this time of year you have to do everything by torchlight....lol
