This 'mechanic' sounds like a total plank to be honest mate and i'll gaurantee you that removing the immob and alarm will make no difference to your original problem :?
Shame your so far away or i'm sure i could have sorted this a lot cheaper and quicker than this goon.

I agree totally Spadge, he is going to charge me for removing the alarm too. DO you reckon I should tell him not to bother and get the car back off him. 320touring from on here has very kindly said he would have a look at mine this evening.

After changing the clutch on my old Is the first place that I would be looking is all the vacuum hoses under the inlet manifold.
When trying to get to the bolts at the top of the bellhousing all these hoses really get in the way and are easy to dislodge / damage, which would cause all sorts of running problems like you are experiencing.

If they are not damaged, Have they all been conneted up properly?

I agree with Spadge though don't let this guy go near it again.

I have lost count of whats been replaced/checked. Just had a 15 min barny with this mechanic. He says he has found a few faults like the fuel pump seems to stay on all the time and that even if the car is off the ECU gets warm?

This is why he wants to remove the immobiliser. I did get a bit annoyed with him then felt guilty as he said i could take the car now and not pay him anything, as long as I let him know what was wrong with it. Like he might actually be interested. I have rightly or wrongly agreed to let him look at it again this afternoon.

He said he would be happy for 320touring to go to his garage tonight and he would go through what he has done already. Im paying two mechanics at once!

I dont blame you one bit. After my heated discussion with him it appears he is just as interested to know whats wrong with it as I am. My complaint is he keeps putting it off and not spending time on mine. I just thought if you talked to him he could go through what he had done and his suspicions etc.

Im just so glad someone who knows e30's is willing to look at it but seems like sucha waste to start all over again but at the same time I have no idea what this guys talking about half the time!

Worth checking or swapping the ECU if it's getting warm i'd have thought...

He said he hadnt looked at the ECU properly yet only by checking pins? Not sure what he meant by that. Surely the fuel pump staying on all the time cant be good either?

I'm guessing he just unplugged the ECU for a look at the multipin plugs, which won't tell you alot unless they're obviously damaged or corroded. The fuel pump should definitely go off with the ignition off - perhaps the DME/fuel pump relay is sticking?
