hey i jus tried changing the dizzy on my 1983 323 but i cant seem to get the timing right to get her to start now! has any one got diagrams of where the timming marks are for the dizzy and where the bottom pulley needs to be ????

fixed but now onto bigger an better things (2.5bolted in)

There is an engraved mark on the rim of the dizzy body at the 9 o'clock position.With the cam on it's mark the crank should also line up every 2nd revolution.Quote from Haynes 815 page 30 para 13(talking about fitting cam belt)...Before fitting the belt,remove the dizzy cap and check that the notch in the rim of the dizzy body is in aliegnment with the one on the governer.The camshaft and crankshaft marks must not have moved.... hope this helps.Remember that the jack shaft that drives the dizzy(and the oil pump)is in turn driven by the cambelt and it is all to easy to move the jack shaft pulley with realising that it has moved.

u say the govener but mine has not got a govener arm its jus a standard one which way does the arm point? can the jack sharf pully move even with the cambelt on ?

Book quote comes from starts with E21 and adds E30 at the end!! But it is good for the M20 engine. Diagram shows the arm facing to the left.You are right,the jack shaft should not move independently.

ok good thnx for the info think i gunna hav to get some help as ive had the arm pointing at about 9 oclock on the dizzy and the bottom pully at tdc an yet she still wont fire??
i then put the old dizzy back on to see if it would make any difference but it sill wont bloody start?
bloody thing is pissin me off lol.

hey done what daimler man said but still no joy is there anything else that would stop her starting
ive got fuel spark and air but all i can get it to do is backfire up the inlet mani ????

finally fixed it timing had to time it tooth on the dizzy and it wont run on factory marks the dizzy had to be bout quarter of a turn out lol but she runs so im a happy man again

lol got engine bolted in mark but still have no pin out data for the c101 plug
now bout to sort exhaust and oil cooler!!!!
as for the strangeness between block an head who knows maybe a compression test will bring up somethinging ??????

so the 2.5 is in and running lol got a few probs now tho no mpg meter any more,heaters only hot on tick over lol an a big exhaust blow, oh and its quite hesitent off the mark has kinda a misfire before it revs up??
think a trip down to ants is in need for the wiring issues
had to run a new wire for the rev counter but chuffed it now works
