E30 Zone

I finally bowed to peer pressure last weekend with everyone asking me/telling me to get on my other E30 instead of tinkering with £300 325's that i use as daily scrap!

TBH i've been a but scared of actually starting this for some reason, i don't know! But i have plucked up the courage and started doing something instead of talking sh!te about it at meets everytime i get asked how it is

Anyway nothing special but it's a start just some snaps of how it was at the start of the week, which is how it's been for the past 6 months or so being a garage ornament!

and a few more of me stripping her down, just been doing a couple of hours each night this week, which is how i'll probably carry on!

I actually feel relieved a little now i'm doing something with it. My minds at a little ease as my touring is doing me proud these days and it's taxed,Mot for a year and running sweet.

What is your forcasted turn around time for this project, when is your dead line?

Also what is the anticipated overall cost of resto, if you don't mind telling.

Looks like a monumental task and the above info ay help bring in to persepctive the level of dedication required to bring this 'pina back.

I'm just getting on with it instead of worrying about stuff, like i do.
Bodywork is first and foremost, i never did this on my old sport and in the end it bit me on the ass with a £1000 welding bill to get it through an Mot.

It's not bad anywhere tbh but it's got a jacking point on one side......pitcures later! Good points are solid inner/outer rear arches, sills and scutle. Needs 2 wings,sunroof,bootlid and rear panel plus some welding on said jacking point. No doubt there will be more but my next door neighbour is a welding hero as he works for an oldskool VW garage restoring beetles and big money split screen campers etc. So the next few weeks months will be ridding the shell of rust. Then on to the paint shop! Where ever that will be!

Mechanicals i'm not worries about as they can be sorted anytime. Engine makes noises no M20 should.
Everyone thought it was knocking when i bought it, i put 3000miles on it and it never threw a rod out the side of the block so who knows until i pull it out and strip it down. It had had a rebuild about 400 miles before i bought it but the reciept for £1300 isn't inspiring. I could go on for hours but it wasn't a proper rebuild! compression is down on no.5 when i tested it. The oil pressure is low too so they never replaced the pump.
Spec wise i'm not sure but i will add a couple of extras to it no doubt.

At the end of the day it's a 10 owner genuine sytners C2 2.7 thats covered 119,000miles most of which i expect have been driven very hard! but it's got reems of history and all Mot's service book bla bla bla and all the important alpina bit are still with it.

Costs? hmmmm well i expect bodywork with the respray is going to be £3000

Engine and mechanicals? how long is a piece of string really. I could spend £6000 on the engine if i wanted but we shall see on that. I'm just after a nice 2.7, something like the GUG would be a good aim and ive got the exhaust to replicate the noise too!

Stick at it and don't lose sight of the reasons why you started it otherwise you'll chuck the towel in and pacerpete will be picking up the pieces

no no Matt! Me and Ian had a ruddy good chat of all things lachs silver! My next door neighbour welds, so do you my uncle is too (spoilt for choice really!), but i'm guessing i'd be silly not to let someone so close do it, i've seen his work and it seems all good to my knowledge. All i have to do is push it out my garage and in to next doors garage all of 10 yards. It's the costs of transport of getting the car about which adds £Â£Ã‚£. Andy my neigbour is just going to do it in the evenings and sat/sun when time permits so no major rush.

I'll do lots of pic's but i want to pull the engine before he starts and fuel tank. I've got a few other jobs i can do before like fitting my spunky new rear axle. new fuel lines bits not seen i can do before it's painted. This is my idea anyway

it makes sense to have it done locally as you can keep an eye on whats going on.had a few people send pm`s about having work done but they always live miles away, think i must live in some e30 no mans land

what rear axle have you got? adjustable?

No you can't get good 2.7's for less than 4k! only nails/border line ones go for less from what i have seen

Matt it's just a standard rear axle which has had the business done by Mr Oldskool_2002 himself it's like new and very horny. I can't even adjust the camber and fit eccentric trailing arm bushes as the 16x8 rims would just rub on the arch on the drops that i like! It won't be like my touring.

planning on getting my suspension bits powder coated after it hits the road. saving up spare items to have rebuilt with new bushes, bearings etc so i can swap them over with the minimum of fuss. got to get some use from the car this year so i decided to leave these jobs for later on.

Is it a bitch getting genuine c2 2.7 parts for your motor?

I don't mean this in any way antagonistically... So please don't take it the wrong way. Its nothing more than ignorance and curiosity.

But what makes an alpina c2.7 special?

Obviously the engine is a 2.7... and it has the kit, wheels and badges, but did they fettle with anything else?

Is the 2.7 the same as a 2.7 'conversion' or did they play with the ecu, map etc?

Either way, lovely car, looks like a hefty resto job but well worth it.

Well i chopped in my aircon setup against this rear axle and gave him so cash as i got some calipers,braided lines and black diamond disks off him the last bits went on the touring for the ring.

Axle is all done thank the lord, new bearings,powder coated, dust sheilds, bushes brake lines it's like new. Doing the other bits to this spec shouldn't be too bad like engine subframe and front struts, plus new nuts and bushes.

I'm good at suspension so i'm not worried on that part or in terms of the setup i will use as i'm going to use a similar setup to my touring as it will be good for the road low enough and ok round the ring as when it's done she will do 1 trip i expect. It's got to be done!

I think that car has good potential. It's the right colour with the correct amount of doors and you have alot of tasty bits stored or currently on another car.

Munky they were rare beasts to start off with and plenty have bit the bullet. I've got the remains of 1 cars engine and dash plaque in my garage

The engine is different to the "conversion" a little briefly, 2.5 head is used which is modded, cam/valves flowed. Bespoke ECU. The best M20 exhaust in the business still apart from the 6 branch. Custom mahle pistons with 2.5 rods and a 324td forged steel crank, as eta ones were found to break on the odd occasion at high rpm.

Suspension? offset front top mounts, roll bars,shocks,springs few other different bushes too. LSD

interior? apina cloth or leather if you wished to go with the dash plaque, gear nob,steering wheel and the intruments have alpina written into them.
You could of course have normal bmw trim, but they only came with sports seats.

Outside? Decal kit was a no cost option, you didn't have to have their bodykit or wheels either, mine has both. Some came with M-tech kits instead. you could have no badges or C2 badges

So as you could totally spec the car up how you like no 2 seem to be the same, my car was just a 325i not even an SE, you base it on a sport too,cab,4door,touring. Mine has windy windows with a 13 button OBC must of stretched for the alpina bit and not worried about alot of factory options. But i shall be adding a good few to spec it up

Hey good luck with the resto. Im sure its going to be one of the spunkiest c2.7's in the UK when finished. One thing i noticed from the pics is the white roof lining, would have thought it would have come with a black one!? Any plans to go black? Best of luck.
