How it started / How it’s going

So after a thorough mechanical recommission and some paint we are back on the road. Still need to sort out the dreaded SI board and do some detailing. Had a very enjoyable 50 mile drive yesterday, drove like a dream. The dealer fitted Blaupunkt only wants to pickup Gold on medium wave, very 80’s!

Thanks Steve, hopefully you’ll spot it on the A38 at some point! Booked in for some detailing and ceramic coatings next month. Just trying to resist the urge to buy a Blaupunkt Bremen and upgrade the footwell speakers 😂

A cheaper alternative to the Bremen is their madrid 200bt which is £80 and looks really good in my E30 and fits the aesthetic well.

Interesting. Do you have any pics of it in situ?

I shall apologise in advance for any manual air conditioning (window winding) activity that might subject you to a whiff of the Gold radio station playlist 😂😂

Thanks Mart, very nice to have your feedback. Of course, I couldn’t disappoint you and not post a couple more! I will get some better pics at some point. We had an awesome drive out to Buxton for brunch today, took a couple of snaps before we left. Spotted a nice 325 white convertible as I span around the block to park too.

I’ve driven 200 miles since I picked it up on Friday afternoon from the BMW specialist who recommissioned it and it’s behaved impeccably. I’d forgotten how nice and tight and new it feels and drives. The short shift now makes gear changing a pleasure and that’s the only mod from standard.

Resisted the Bremen urge, but just bought a nice Blaupunkt BMW Bavaria, hopefully the cassette player works and at least I will now have FM! 😂😂

So, I’ve dispatched the car for some paintwork detailing, interior and under bonnet detailing, and then some ceramic paint protection.

Can’t wait for it to be finished. The detailer has commissioned a professional photographer to take some pics, so hopefully will have something good to share soon.

Very nice, though I have a soft spot for a Polaris chromie. Yours must be one of the last of the first gen pre-facelifts.
Any pics of the interior? Wish I’d kept hold of my blue cloth interior in the hope I could’ve found some matching sports seats!

Thanks, can’t beat a 2 door chromie right?! Yes, we’ve still got the blue interior.....

Thank you, collected it earlier and it does look pretty darn good. The detailer is gathering the pics and vids and I should have some to share soon. If it’s nice weather tomorrow I will take some when we venture out for a spin. I can’t take any credit for how awesome it looks, that is down to Joe and Kelly at Barnfind Detailing in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. 🙂🙂

Don’t panic, more pics soon! The ceramic coating I went for should last at least 8 years. Paint is as smooth as can be and I had a demo of how it beads water and it was impressive. It’s not cheap, but I guess you get what you pay for.

To be honest I paid for a lump of work - paint correction, interior and engine bay detailing, new number plates fitted, bonnet insulation removed and replaced, black plastic trim coated, and then the glass, wheels and paint ceramic coated. The detailer has taken loads of pics and vids and paid for a professional photographer take some photos,

Couldn’t tell you what the ceramic coating would be on it’s own, but for protection, deep shine and peace of mind it’s good value I reckon! 🙂🙂🙂🙂

Got the car back from the detailer, the ceramic coating has definitely added a deeper, wetter shine. A good bonus for the protection it will hopefully give.

I think cars are better used than stored, after 15 years of storage we need to clock up some miles! We’ve covered about 800 in the last 6 weeks and have had lots of positive waves and smiles and comments.

It’s special to drive, every outing feels like an occasion, we tipped over to 32,000 on Monday!

Hope to see you sometime soon Mart 🙂

So, it was MOT time yesterday. The second since it’s been back on the road and the first since we’ve put some mileage on, just over 1,000 miles. No dramas thankfully, just one small pin hole in the centre exhaust section. Not bad for the original exhaust I guess!! 😅😅
