E30 Zone

I’ve decided to refresh the underside of the my car, it was due a brake disc/pad change... but as I was doing this I thought I might as well go all out!

As you can see the brake discs and pads were In need of a change so I took the front shocks, brake callipers, subframe etc off.
This was not easy, as I don’t think they had been touched for many years.
After this I started on the rears, which was a very difficult task. As every nut and bolt was rusted together. This took me a while to do as I was doing this on random days off.

Well done for getting stuck in! Are you sending them off for powder coat or are you painting the main parts yourself?

A good set of these are really helpful for stubborn bolts LINK. You still have to have good feel but my god they make things easier. Also one of THESE bad boys. Heat solves a lot of problems

After a lot of hassle and anger got all this off and separated.

Been doing this over the past few months, not continuous but whenever I find some free time.
So not in no particular order but where I remembered I've taken some pictures to show what has been done.

I don't have all the needed tools to take/seperate the bushes, hubs etc so i dropped it off to Barry @ BMR to get to it for me.
After I got them back I dropped them off to be sand blasted and painted in satin black.

Got these refurbed and plated by BigRed Also whilst I was waiting for the subframes and other parts to be blasted and painted, I dropped the bolts/nuts etc that had been taken off, to be plated. as below:-
came out pretty decent, but if I had spent the time cleaning them up properly, would have come out much better. Learnt from my mistake for next time.

Where did you get that stuff coated? I assume it’s zinc plating?

Got them done by YB plating, based in Crawley.
They are finished in gold. They do zinc plating as well if you want.

Whilst I was going deep into this refreshment of the underneath, I've heard that theres usually an issue with the fuel filler pipe rusting out, so this next was the next task.
Once taken out, it was good to see that it wasn't in too much of a bad condition, but as it was out, dropped it off to get blasted.

I would pay some careful attention to the stud in the middle left. That one and a couple near there will rust through the wheel arch very quickly once they look like that.

In the mean time, I ordered the parts that were needed, bushes, etc
the box above consisted of gaskets, protection caps for front/rear shocks, hex nuts for heat shields, heat shields that go near the manifold, handbrake shoes & springs

This sort of refresh is soooooo satisfying. Can't want to see the results

I recently fitted a set of those Pagid hand brake lines, only down side of them compared to others I've used in the past, is they don't have the small square 'key way' which locks them into the hand brake leaver. It just makes it a bit of a pain to adjust the cables.

yeah I did notice that when I compared the old against new one, will see may change them

Bit by bit this overhaul is getting more and more expensive, very expensive. Did not even think it would end up costing me what it has done so far.

So I returned the euro car parts handbrake cable and decided to order them direct from BMW instead, just because of the nut at the beginning, so ordered more parts that were needed.

Heres some pictures of the parts once I got them back from being blasted/painted

I gave these Racing Dynamics Anti Roll Bars in to get painted also, as they were bit rough. Got them pretty much close to the original colour they came with.
