It's a petrol can. It's red. It has a flexible spout, which is black. Not much else to say about it really.

I have never bought one before and would like to know if there are any "rules" etc ?

Go for a metal one as in the heat the plastic ones can expand and overtime the plastic can deteriorate as had one in the shed for petrol tools and it started to leak so replaced all with metal, petrol stations don't like you filling up a 20l can so go for a 5 or 10l metal can.
