For all the NHS workers who are doing the greatest work ever, fortunately I haven’t had this virus (yet) that I know of ,but these are the people I would trust implicitly with my health if I did get it ,THANK YOU NHS !

Yes although I fear they are totally un-equipped to deal with what is coming. They are putting their lives on the line to help others survive. I think anyone who is still out working with the public deserves some recognition.

I have ALWAYS been a fan of the NHS (seemed to have used them quite alot !! ) and I know that they are there 24/7 , 365 , rain or shine.
They are much better than what we are constantly told by the likes of the media .
The girl next door to me is a nursing sister and is married with two young kids but she is still going to work at silly o`clock etc.

At the risk of ruffling some feathers, I think the NHS is a disgrace. I lived in Holland for 25 years and their system is streets ahead of ours.

Trouble is its the people in the UK that abuse it, for example Mart gets ratted most weekends and uses the ambulance as a cab home (I may be joking)

The Netherlands has a population of 17M the UK 4 times that and a lot more immigrants you also I believe have to have insurance to cover your healthcare, my experience of the UK NHS is that it may be lacking in certain areas, the staff underpaid but the level of service is good.

These are people that care so don't knock them, my cousin runs/owns a healthcare service that runs ambulances and was once himself a paramedic

My feather`s are well ruffled.
It`s what you dont see or hear of outside of the BBC (very easy "news " ) what is very impresive.
I live in Leeds where we have two of the biggest hospitals in europe and five miles away from Pinderfields which is the leading burns hospital in the country and some !
I have no complaints .

There's nothing impressive about trying to make an appointment with my GP and being told the first available slot is in 4-6 weeks. In Holland it was nearly always the same day or sometimes the next. The last time I tried to get an appointment I went to the clinic in person and was told they now only take bookings over the phone. I took my mobile out while still standing in front of the receptionist, phoned her and made an appointment

In times of emergencies ours services are second to non, the day to day stuff does need a big looking at but for what we pay and what we actually get is nothing other places can offer.
If you are on the streets or are quite well off and suffer a "heart attack" the treatment is the same and is the best anywhere in the world.
For such a HUGE organisation they do a HUGE job.

I've been married to someone who has worked front-line NHS A&E for over 20 years, I honestly don't know how she does it.

If you are dying on a pavement somewhere, the NHS is your best chance to live. They don't check your pockets for insurance or credit cards first like some 'civilised' countries do, you are treated without question. Primary care is some of the best in the world beyond any doubt.

BUT it is an organisation that has lost its way, lost sight of what it is for. It is abused and taken advantage of by people that should do more for themselves, private companies that see it as a cash cow and politicians that see it as political capital.

It needs top-down re-organisation, it needs to concentrate on primary care, what it is good at. There is insurance for the niceties and half the top level management should be sent to work in those insurance companies to see how long they survive.

Rant over, I do feel a bit better.

I agree as my husband and her husband have worked in this field for the last 20 years.

When my youngest son was 3 weeks old he had a serious urinary infection the car that was given was outstanding and the male nurse was amazing and they even allowed the ex wife to sleep in the room, the male nurses took over when she slept.

Netherlands has a high % of infant mortality against the amount of residents though.

That you also lived in the Netherlands for 25 years which has a great Health System that in part was helped along by all the allied soldiers buried in cemeteries across the country that helped free the country from occupation.

my mother in law worked for the NHS for 20+yr's, most of it as a manager for the CRASH team (frontline mental health) & as she says there are far to many managers doing the job that one could do or even the old matron,

she quit a couple of years back as it was taking it's toll on her own mental health but because of this virus she has been asked if she'd go back, as far as i know she's thinking about it.

what doesn't help is the fact that blair/brown sold off a lot of the buildings & made the NHS rent them back, thats where a lot of the money goes, also a lot of it is wasted on things that ain't needed (all these extra managers mainly),

also a lot of these "outside" firms offer the same services that the NHS offer, yes they are free for the lies of you & i to use but they bill the NHS stupid amounts to do so, one in question round here is the "outside clinic" who do hearing & eye tests, the "tests" are free at point of use but then they bill the nhs for you using it when you can get the same service free at either the local hospital or the GP.

it needs to be completely rebuilt from the ground up.
