Check your change site is very useful. Generally only mint coins are worth anything, but plenty of coins in circulation, especially £2 coins, are worth a bit more than face-value. 2k for a 50p is unlikely, unless that's some joker on eBay chancing his arm.

Interesting. I may have one of those - I've got various other Beatrix Potter ones.

However, you still see loads going on E-bay from around £2, so I don't think they're worth quite as much as some claim...

I sealed up one of each coins in a lime pointing job I did for a space age builder to find, the pointing should be good for 150 years, what will be the currency then??

As anything with the Royal Mint you lose money on most of the stuff but its the sentinel side of things that count. No one I knew was in the BoB of Flanders so it never interested me.

For a memory or keepsake thats fine as its not about the value or profiting out of it.

I picked this up a few months ago, not through "official" channels but it completes the set of my Fathers WWII medals.

wow, treasure it how ever you came to own it.

my mum has my great uncles medals & all his papers, including the one's where they changed his name (did this to all coal miners who became tunnellers) & as far as i know there's a fair few more in the collection.

his brother was the "batsman" to the duke of devonshire after they found out he lied about his age (he was 15 & told them he was 18 like most did at the time).

The medal was from eBay £14 lots of copies but it doesn't matter to me as it goes well with the Atlantic, Italy and Africa Star, he did what he had to do, he was a stoker/motorman in the Merchant Navy and to be honest you could not have chosen a worse job in WWII unless you where Japanese and a Kamikaze pilot to be honest.

No wonder he smoked 60 a day.........
