Seeing as the BBC are wetting their pants over the prospect of Scotland leaving the UK to become an independent country within the EU...and the only people who get to vote on it are Scottish people living in Scotland I thought I'd set up a poll for zoners to vote and maybe see if this is such a big issue outside Scotland.

All welcome to vote, including comments - but please don't start a war unless you're prepared to sweep up ;)

I'm undecided, if it wasn't for the total fuck wit nob muncher Salmond I think more people would seriously consider independance, but his arguments are poor.

All this shit about the oil and whisky industries providing a huge source of income if we were independant. Last I checked most of the rigs, refineries and distilleries are not scottish owned so the money certainly wont be going back in to the scotttish purse for them to spunk on ridiculous projects.

There is so much more to this than the press and salmond would have you believe.

From my understanding; the population density, sparsity of said population, geography and weather makes Scotland incredibly expensive to run per capita (at the UK's living standard). Whilst Aberdeen and Edinburgh are very rich cities I'm led to beleive that Scotland is in no way financially self sufficient, let them go if they want but I doubt very much if it's for the good of Scotland.

Realisticaly some Scottish politician wants to be prime minister, doesn't stand a chance in the uk so wants a separate country to run!

If Scotland does go for independance, it won't be the United Kingdom any more.

Even out football teams cant manage their taxes how the hell are we supposed to survive alone as a nation. Wer lazy, have huge drug and health problems, all our oil profits go elsewhere. Even the rich ones who work in oil live abroad and dont pay tax. separating is a ridiculous idea, why the hell was it even brought up anyway, people here have some deep resent of England for no fucking reason.

The current arguments for it are laughable. A ridiculous comparison to Norway, tourism or windfarms as the second earners and the whisky trail to back it all up. It really doesn't wash.

Sadly a bunch of neds are likely to vote yes simply because they "hate" the English.

The real worry is the politcians love for the ability to raise more taxes, where do the yes voters think this is coming from? We already pay more per capita in tax, I really don't wat to pay more.

From a proud English man living in Scotland im hoping it stays as is.

Scotlands a great place an love being here, all 8 years of it. My daughter is born here and I do have Scottish family around but im proud to be English and will move back 'home' if they move away from the UK.

I think that what has happened recently is that, much to most people's surprise, the SNP made a decent fist of government in the minority administration.

Disillusionment nationally and locally with the stale arrogance of the Scottish Labour Party and a recognition of the decent job the SNP had done over the previous four years led to their majority victory in the last Scottish Patliament elections - an astonishing result given that the Labour and Tory designers of the voting system had specifically intended that no party should be able to gain an absolute majority.

However, I do not think that the vote for the SNP at the Scottish election was by any stretch of the imagination a vote for independence. Unfortunately Salmond does and I think and hope that he'll be disappointed come the referendum.

The only positive aspect of independence that I have seen so far is that the self serving boot that is Michelle Mone will leave Scotland if it becomes independent.

I travelled around the UK recruiting for several months and I found the politest, freindliest poeple in south wales and around aberdeen and inverness, really didn't expect to be welcome (as an englishman) to either of those places but loved it and it was a refreshing change after the south of england,
Some people live in the past and just regurgitate the same shite generation after generation. it would be a shame to break up these nations and will only make them all weaker IMO.

I voted #4 - simply because if they did go independent and it went tits up (which it would) we would have to bail it out.

Johnl320 ul find that because theres a higher population of english in and around aberdeenshire they tend to be friendlier towards the english. the place im from in edinburgh absolutely hates the english because theres hardly any of them. its a strange country we have here like. and i cant wait to leave it.

SNP only look good here cause the rest of the parliament is full of feckin retards. A separate Scotland is a shite idea, currently businesses are avoiding Scotland as there is a chance the country will be in a mess in two years. Cheers SNP you bunch of twats. I can appreciate the concept of independence; I live in a country that wasn't on the map of Europe for over 100 years, and only got democracy 22 years ago.

But from that perspective, the Scottish arguments for independence are laughable. Are their rights curbed? Is their language restricted? Are the Scots treated as a voiceless minority? Are they fuck.

Scotland's got a population of just over 5 million, which seems a lot but is only twice as much as Warsaw. Try and compare that, a country and a city. This town struggles to build a new ring-road that's only 20 km long; how on earth does Scotland intend to fund any single infrastructure project like a motorway, a railway line, or even just a tram line around the capital?

It's just a big, yawning, empty country. Isolating itself off from the second biggest economic power in Europe for reasons of pride and nationalism is just cutting off its nose to spite its face. On it's own, Scotland has no chance of surviving in the Real World.

Im interested to know are there any Scots on here who want independence?

I don't get the snp seem obsessed with keeping there promise of having a referendum on Independence, want a to change the votes so they can can lower the age and have a 3 choices to get a minority yes but vote that counts but a majority no vote.

I do quite a bit of work in Scottish government buildings and it is still run massively inefficient, and they keep expanding it. The civil service is probably the single biggest employer in Scotland so the taxes from the rest of the population has to kept it going, and with independence they will probably want to increase it even more.

Independence would only work for the man on the street id it reduced tax and increased the standard of living, so that means nationalise the oil industry, amd stream line the civil service which will never happen

What happens if we give them it back? They will have to employ English or Europeans to teach their children about fruit and vegetables, the importance of being clean and battered everything isn't actually a good thing.
