20K TO SPEND

I've got 20k to blow and i'm not sure what BMW to blow it on. It has to hold value and still do the job it was designed for. I'm really hankering after a 2.5 Evo Sport, but me thinks after the cars i've had it might not be quick enough anymore, but the looks of it keep pulling me in. I need some help on this guys.

What other cars have you had to compare it to?
The Sport Evo isn't meant to be fast, it's the way it drives and feels.
It came on top of all the 'M' cars, so surely that says something?

I'd spank £20k on an boomerang tail light maserati 3200GT myself and have enough change for the next 3 rediculous service charges and a new set of tyres.
I like BMW, I love E30's but I'd never spunk more than £5k on one.

It's not quite what you asked for, but I reckon it would hold it's value, it not increase:

E46 M3, iv'e had both E30 and E36 versions and loved the E30 almost go-kart like feedback and the E36's ability to devour ground (but not involving enough) or possible the MCoupe Bread van with it's E30 underpinnings, possibly with the S54 lump.

20k on a classic BMW that'll hold its money and perform?
The best M635 you can find?
The best E28 M5 you can find?
An 850 CSi?
I think the E30 M3 is about to suffer the same "correction" in prices as some parts of the housing market. I'd not be buying one for investment purposes right now.
The E28 M5 is faster, has 4 useable seats, torque, 4 doors, the steering wheel on the correct side, is quieter, smoother and handles just as well on the road (OK on the track the E30 edges it), but it's cheaper!? If I had had the M5 first, I'd never have had an M3.

First £4000, then £6000 then £20,000. All these people looking to spend this amount of money on a car AND all in the last week. Who says the economy is in decline?

Iv'e been thinking the same thing myself, they seem to have gone crazy price wise (wish i had bought a few of them previous to the madness)but they are a great car, but and thats it, that ?? in myb head. I drove a 968 at the weekend and what a car that is for the same money, very focused.

Either drop it on the mortgage or as a depo on another. 20k isnt going to buy much of a car anyway

If I had to spend £20K On a BMW, it would HAVE to be a 850CSi, but I personally wouldn't do it.
Cars are the single worst investment EVER unless you can enough bucks to play with the real big boys.
Get a decent 325 for £3000ish and save the rest...

However if i had 20k and it didn't have to be a bmw, i would be going after an aircooled 911.

Mine will be officially up for sale this summer, but will be a chunk more than £20k though.

I would get a late 2002 S54 engined Z3 M-Coupe.
They have held their price for the last couple of years and they are one of the best cars ever made for having fun in.

On a side note... That video is awesome and an lesson in why slamming your car and fitting overspecced dampers and springs isn't the way forward!
Sorry.. Got distracted by cool vroom vrooms.
And on another note.. I've wasted a fair bit of cash on my E30's, but if I had 20K I'd either spend it on a few cars I like (I personally like retro, 80's cars) or one modern (and modern pretty much means better I'm afraid) car. E30's are great. But come on, you are a man of means. Think a little more up the scale of petrol headedness here man.
Porsche, Ulitma, E46, NSX, the list goes on.

I have to agree with Dan here,I "had" 20k to blow on a car from an inheritance five years ago.
I spent 2K on the Touring and used the rest to fund moving into a beautiful cottage.
Still got both

eh each to their own, I wouldn't be buying houses at the moment, in fact I'm getting off the property ladder for a while. Untill I decide what to do next.

Why waste it on an E30, you could buy something nice.

Actually, I'm no financial guru but there are a lot of ways of making 20K into 40k in five years.
I too would spend a little on something the missus would hate now, and something that'll buy her a new set of tits when she needs them.......
[edit] but who's to say the guy asking the question hasn't already got a model swinging off his manhood and ten million in the bank... He asked how to spend 20k on an e30, we're all talking about what WE'D do with the money. I know someone that had a 21'st birthday party that cost more than that. Money's relative. 20K would change my life at the moment, but I hope that'll be my bonus for finishing a project on time in a few years (keep dreaming Jai).

20k on a bmw yeah? thats easy mate it has to be an E30 M3 sport evo its easily the best looking bmw ever made red or black it dont matter there just as beautiful in either colour and i bet its the best bmw to drive aswell! that car is an absolute masterpeice it would have to be totally original and standard though you'd have to be crazy to want to modify a car of such prestige rarity and beauty! but av gota feeling you'd have to dig deeper than 20k for a mint original one though but it would be worth it mate because am pretty damn sure if you watched the miles and kept it pristine it would only go up in value!! There that special! defo more special than a ford sierra RS500 and mint examples of them can go for 30k!!!

I'd also be keen on a Z3 M coupe but what about a lovely E34 M5 and some change? Thats got to be one of the finest M cars.

personaly i'd buy a sport for about 4k, spend about 8k restoring it and the other 8k id spend on an e36 m3 evo engine transplant.
mint, rare and quick as f*ck
