E30 Zone

hi everyone thanks for all the advice you've given on previous questions my latest is I've been offered a power boost valve for my 325i coupe and wondered if there any good & do they make any real difference hope someone can help

Unless its very cheap and you know how to set it up, they are a waste of money.

They can react quicker than the original FPR, but unless your car is running excessively rich or lean, they are pretty pointless, Especially if you are going to remap the car in the future.

Just my opinion, I am sure there are other's who have differing opinions

I have fitted a couple to various cars in the past and the only difference I ever noticed was they never ran right after fitting them and no amount of tinkering could get it right.

All depend's on what you have done to your engine internal's. If it is standered then there is no point at all, and will cause you problem's.

Only works when used with ebay resistors, ebay electric supercharger and when you fold the back seats flat to save weight. Expect gains of around 50bhp. Honest

i have one and took it off and find that the car ran better but i also have E36 M3 injectors and the car is sweet, and smooth idle, but when fitted my original injectors (325) the car didnt run any good bit lumpy allthough the injectors has been overhauled by bosch, £110 worth, im putting my E36 injectors back and keeping away from FSE power boost valve.

does depend on the car tbh.

i fitted some lumpier cams to my metro, and the std ecu didnt like them very much, an fse with the pressure raised a little smoothed out the idle and made it as driveable as the std car, but with more grunt without making it stupidly rich. a lot of people have found the injectors on those cars work better with higher fuel presure, so even after fiting an emerald ecu i kept the fse with the raised pressure and mapped the ecu to suit.

although on an othewise stock e30 with it's old tech ecu i can imagine all you will end up doing is running too rich and wasting fuel

Power Boost, is it that unit they cal electric turbo or supercharger on eBay?

A few years ago, CCC mag (Cars and Car Conversions) actually tested one whilst fitted to a Mk2 Golf (might have been a GTi, not sure).

Unsurprisingly, it made absolutely no difference to the engine's output. It might even have been Dave Walker himself, who wrote the article...

Mine had one on when i bought it. When i went to a zone rolling road session a few years ago the operator told me the fuelling was all over the place and recommended i get a standard one. Promptly got a new genuine one from BMW, not expensive, and hey presto the car ran much smoother and on the arse dyno felt slightly quicker too.

Like others have said, unless your car is heavily tuned and needs radically different fuelling to standard i would stay away from FSE power reduction valve tat.

Though if you fit it with nawz and underglo, you'll have a 10 second car, dude!

If you need to alter the fueling drastically from standard, an adjustable FPR is NOT the way to do it!!

You can drop another second if you add the powwah gaffix upgrate too dude. And put a copy of your weekly shopping list on the front doors.

Waste of time, like those stupid ekotec valves, which actually got several good reviews in some mags. Ashamed to say I bought one of those a few years ago before I started as a mechanic and didn't know any better. now I just think how stupid I was.

Friend of mine has one on his 325, took it off once for an original one again to pin-point some poor running. Wasn't the problem, so put it back on again and said he did notice a slight bit of improvement on responsiveness when tested back to back, but not much either...

ive been told that if you add a ebay "turbo whistle" to the exhaust you can get massive gain's in power and your street cred is massive .. just watch that whiplash when the turbo kicks in!
