:D Just thought I would share my joy of 3 successful MOTs... Which I think is the most I've ever had on the trot. I know I should expect nothing less from such a class car :)

Mine passed 5pm yesterday second time round.Failed originally on headlight aim and front flexi pipe bulged.
Cost of car for scrap £100
cost of MOT £40
cost of flexi pipe £Free

Not bad for a deserved breaker :P

I think mine is likely to fail on minor bodywork ( havent checked jacking points ....hmmm ) but I have receipts for flexi and metal brakepipes done last year so should be OK, steering & suspension all feels good and all lights/wipers etc work as they should. Fingers crossed - I suppose once its been through the test I'll really know what I'm up against !

Just been out in the garage and poked around the jacking points - all seems very solid .... no nasty crunching noises when prodding with a screwdriver anyway. MOT time always stressful - Im sure it will throw some sort of nasty at me! 8O

as far as bodywork goes any excessive corrosion within 30cm of a load bearing point,ie seat belt or suspension mounting point, will fail the mot,but theres almost 500 indervidual items checked average per test.you can get your mot done 1 calender month before its due and the computerised system will automaticly add the extra month to your new ticket.just make sure the garage gives a free re-test,most do within 14 days (ten working days) of the test date. remember though that even though you may have a valid mot certificate,it is illigal to knowingly drive a defective vehicle, and vosa's computer shares everything with the p.n.c.

Don't know whether that little hole would be classed as "excessive" - I know it needs sorting though. I had to have the battery tray welded on my old 320i but don't think it failed the MOT on it and it was a bigger hole than that and about the same distance from the suspension mount. All will be revealed Saturday !

by the looks of the picture that hole is within 30cm of the suspension turret and should fail if so,but it only appears small and should be fairly inexpensive to get welded up,fingers crossed theres nothing else!!! good luck bud!

I bought a 318is of fleabay for £300 last november. The owner was getting rid cos he said it hadnt been on the road for a year, and wouldnt pass an MOT. I bought it for sh*ts and giggles, and cos it was cheap. Took it for an MOT the next day and it passed, even though, the exhaust was blowing, speedo didnt work, leaked oil, leaked coolant, leaked fuel, corroded fuel lines and corroded brake lines. Only got an advisory for the brake lines. Happy days. This car is now my daily driver. :D

seing as you drive like one sounds like a good idea!! from what ive seen its mighty impressive and nice to see someone spending the time to make their bimma safe and sound.some others seem to be happy driving around a cheap sh**er that potentially dangerous to the rest of us,either lack of talent or brains,im betting on both. 8)

Well done mate, good feeling isn't it! Mine passed the other week as well. I say passed it did need a new indicator bulb, so left me out of pocket.......not :), was well happy with the result. First MOT since owning the car, so hopefully a sign of things to come. (we can all dream :p)

Had a good poke about with a screwdriver and suprisingly its very solid around that little rusty bit. I am half tempted to put a big nut and bolt in it with big washers both sides and say its where the alarm used to be......or would that be too much of a bodge 8O

Worse things have been done than that. It would buy you time to think on what to do with it. :?
