What sort of mileage do you get from a tank of petrol?

I've not long had a 318i which is running a bit poop at the moment, (got to change the temp sensors etc) thats only done 250miles to a full tank of petrol and is getting close to been on the red again??? This is meant to be the super cheap daily driver lol, but that just seems a bit s***. Most of its in non stop/start traffic as well so didn't think it would be that bad.

Im comparing this to my old mk2 golf gti that i put a 2litre ABF engine into and a few mods etc...and was alot better on fuel than this? And twice as quick lol.

I get a similar range with my M40B18 318i too.

I'm not sure what can be done tho. Perhaps a top overhaul might help seeing as it's done 245k+ k ms now.

I don't usually run mine from full to completely empty, but I usually get 300-350mi before needing to fill up with 'normal' driving. This is usually a bit before the red light would come on and in a 316i touring; I can't imagine a 318i should be that much worse!

A 318i should be BETTER than a 316 since it's the same size engine so thermal efficiency would be higher in the 318 engine.

I used only get around 270 to a tank in my old 316i saloon

I get around 300 miles from a full tank in my 325....works out at an average of about 23mpg.

Mixed roads and conditions...roughly 40-50 miles per day on a mix of motorway (20 miles) main roads (5-10 miles) country roads (10 miles) and town stop/start (5-10 miles)

But I don't drive for economy...
If I am *really* careful, I can get 26mpg+ and even upto 30mpg (just) on a long motorway run with no traffic and a gentle right foot.

My M3 is around the same, perhaps a little more efficient in day-to-day driving over the same mix of roads, but will do less mpg if hoofed everywhere.

The touring currently is being used by my g/f...she drives mostly shortish journeys around town and only gets about 20mpg,maybe even less....
However the 320 Touring will get a better mpg if driven gently...I've had over 30mpg on a long motorway run before.

Over the past 6 weeks (possibly more) i've been full tanking the car when ever i needed fuel.

I've got between 210-270 miles from a full tank. Most of those miles are motorway, but there is alot of city driving, and also alot of idle (need to keep the car running to use all of the ICE features or battery goes flat).

I get 11 - 14 L/100km from my 323i (day to day), so convert that to MPG if you will. But thats not too bad.
I've seen down to 8.5L/100km on a freeway drive, 5th gear at 110km/h.

I get aout 250/280 to a full tank in my 318i convertible auto
but I also have a turbo bolted to mine

you're talking about M10 rather than M40, yes?

i get max 24ish mpg

i get anything from 20 to 34 mpg .....20 if its driven hard and i drove from watford to croydon and averaged 34mpg ....not bad for a 325 ...on the other hand my 1.8 m40 cab averages 20mpg never better than 25mpg
and to think i opted for a 1.8 because i thought it would be more economy minded ...

The M3 averages around 30-25mpg.

Not worked it out on my car though, with the way I drive it, must be about 25mpg

not a clue i just fill it back up when its empty

i get about 15 mpg im mine

I topped up my old manual 316 and drove 300 miles on one tank, it must have been on vapours when I almost coasted into a service station.

My auto 325i I would not run it that low just in case there is any crud in the bottom of the tank. Last check 27 mpg before the A-tec chip, not checked it since.

I don't use mine enough to be bothered by mpg, I catch a train to work and only do 3,000 miles a year

My dirty 318is did 34 mpg(worked out proper, no OBC wrongness) and 286 miles and loads of fuel left in the tank. The light wasn't even close to being on. That was mixed driving.

i've managed 400 miles to a tank in my old 318iS once. All m-way but 40 mpg it worked out to

420 to a tank once in my old 325i auto aswell, all m-way, but it never did less than 300 to a tank either

i was thinking of putting up a post of this, i have just got 250 out of my 318i m40 heap and its fuel light is on again, only mod so far is a scorpion exhaust. i was expecting somewhere nearer to 300.

on that note people with tourings should getmore miles per tank anyway as they have a 65l tank rather then a 50 dont they.... or am i talking out my arse

I drive a 318i as a daily driver, and it is super cheap, if you consider total costs (ultra reliability, minimal service costs, zero depreciation, etc.), but not much of this 'super cheapness' can be attributed to its fuel consumption!
A 318iS would be a better candidate for this.
After 250 miles in the 318i (touring) it's usualy time to start looking out for a petrol station.

My Beemer with an M30 do maybe 5 miles to a gallon..... This is just rude!

I've just done 375 miles in my 318is, but for 15 miles of that, the light was on. Took 49 ltrs to brim it, so it must have been very low lol.

If it doesn't do 325 miles before the light comes on I am pretty low about it, especially with the price of the stuff these days.

My Evo2 did nearly 650 miles on a tank once with mixed driving. This was Fife to Bristol then Swansea (other side of) then back to bristol with some other running about in between. Big tank with reserve tank on that though and would take £65 to fill back in 2006.

Around 26 mpg average 320i.

I think I'll average about 25-30mpg over a normal week in my 318i. Of course it can be alot lower or a bit higher, all depends.

i always brim my 318i tourer (m40) and get 300 - 350 to a tank this is all non motorway work however i imagine when i start my new job at nissan in washington it should improve it is about a 80 mile round trip, 70ish of which on the A19 i expect 400 or so to a tank when i commence!

I regularly get 300 miles per tank without trying in my 'iS with mixed motorway and A roads plus the odd thrash. Gonna try driving gently till i hit the warning light and see what i can get.

I get absolutely F**K all in my Sport!! 180ish to a tank but then it does need a re-map

the chipped b25 on the b20 diff does............ 230 to a tank........... my 320 did 240.... i think i can handle the emotional loss of 10 miles to a tank..

160 - 180 miles per tank B28 on a 3.38 diff
