E30 318i Tourer M40 Engine

Greetings to one & all!
I could do with some advice please! My daily driver is an immaculate E30 318i M40 engined Tourer. The car is on an 89 plate & is pre-cat
. I have been toying with the idea of having the car chipped. I'm not particulary bothered about power gains, I appreciate this wil be relatively minor. I keep a limited mileage classic with 250 Bhp & 280 lbs ft of torque, so nothing | do to my Panzer will set my pulse racing! The point is, I would like to increase torque & throttle response, and ideally, if possible, enhance fuel consumption.
Anybody out there gone down the chip avenue? If so, was it worth it & what benefits did it bring? Which chip manufacturer is recommended for the E30? Superchips do a chip for the 318i that increases BHP by 8 horses, however, I cannot find any further information out. A few bods on Pistonheads advised me NOT to use Superchips.....Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers chaps!
Pete
