E30 Zone

Hello all.

Does anyone know the ins and outs of classic car insurance? Would my 1988 325i sport qualify if I do less the 5000 miles a year? Also is there an age limit on the driver, i.e. do you have to be a certain age to obtain classic car insurance? Following on from that, what companies are good to look at?

I have been looking into it recently, and have found the following.....

Car must be over 15yrs (no problem there)
and drivers need to have 2yrs no claims if under 23

different insurers will let you have more than 5k miles

But i havent found any decent quotes yet... any one know of any decent companies that will insure a 21yr old?

My cabs on a CCP with Livingstone Warners via the BMW CC. Only pay £130 a year with agreed value and 3000 miles a year. The e30 more than qualifies for classic insurance now.

For the record I'm 43 with 3 point on licence and full no claims.

I know that most will say that you musn't have made/been involved in a claim for atleast 12 months.

Savage! I'm 19 and I only have one years no claims, looks like I'm not getting classic insurance then. Thanks for you're help anyway.

I could make my insurance half the price if i ever bother to call my insurance company to cancel.

I think Lancaster Insurance was really cheap for me.

Don't think about Classic car isnurance untill you're 25 realistically or you may end up paying more than you with on a normal policy, and may end up with less cover.

Most insurers offering classic car insurance will give a better price if you have use of another car.They expect that the classic will have limited use as a second vehicle.

ItsAllAboutTheE30 when did you get ur sport?? i got mine while i was 19, and had to start paying £1500 for TPFT, now paying £800 TPFT with directline intrest free monthly payments!

I am looking at a classic policy on my M3 this year
I will fit all the criterial but I think flux will probably be my best bet after my recent chat with them about a 327 and some silly cheap insurance

They seem to be very good.

On a modified classic policy I was quoted £600 for me to be on the M3 under my Dad's name

George. I got my sport in March last year,I was going to wait until November of the same year before I got one, when I would have had 2 years driving and a years no claims. However, my old car (useless French heap aka 306) gave up the go so I had to get it then and pay extortionate insurance premium for a while. Only getting round to cancelling current policy now, as I have also found DirectLine to be the cheapest.

Quotes I've had (being 19 with 2 years driving and years no claims):

'Sensible (boring/shopping) car': Vauxhall Corsa 2003 1.4l - £1400 comprehensive ?!?!?
Superior machine aka 325i sport (car owned): £1600 comprehensive!!!

Ridiculous imo! Thought i'd get that quote a month or so ago, just to see what my premium would be like on a normal car.

Try HIC if you are after a classic policy, but minimum age is often 21 and usually mileage no more than 6K.

Be advised, usually with classic policies, you do not earn any NCD

i got insured a couple of years ago on my 325 sport i was 34 full no claims with 6 points cost me £118 for 5k a year with "best" classic insurance could be peter best cant remember oh was garaged came with free recovery too

Hi I got both my cars on classic insurance. The M3 is with Carole Nash underwritten by Chaucer £400 and the M535i with Peter Best £167.. Peter Best would quote me on the M3 bcoz i wasn't 30!!
Both companies are good generaly cars have to be garaged, Alarm limited miles etc etc
My bothers got his sport insured via Elephant which was the cheapest mainstream insurance company by suprise?
