E30 shells from BMW

I know there's been a few threads on this already, and general consensus was that they ran out a couple of years ago. But never heard it from someone who's actually checked with BMW. So I sent a couple of emails to Mobile Tradition to see if they have any anywhere sitting in a back room gathering dust. Asked about all E30 models too, in case previously someone only asked about 2door/touring/cabby/4door etc.

So I'll wait and see. I'd imagine if they do happen to have any, people on here would snap them up pretty quickly! I know that they used to only cost £1k, which is a lot less than the welding work needed on mine to get it back mint...

the basic cost would be less.. but factor in a complete paint job and a few other bits and it wont be cheap (you couldnt use old/worn parts on a new shell, it'd be wrong).. It would however be mint..

I would deffo take a 2 door shell. One of the main reasons I stick with tourings is that saloons are nearly all rusty. I'd love to start on a clean 2 door shell. It would probably take me ten years to build the car but it would be worth it in the end to have a mint, straight from the factory (in my tiny garage) E30. And feck it give me a touring aswell.

a new un used shell in primer .........

i beleve there to be a few M3 ones in germany/austria. value wise, well they are not for sale even at silly pices. in the current market a clean used e30 m3 shell can command very strong money, i know of one very clean e30 m3 shell with paper work changed hands for £2500, but no glass, no doors, loom, bumbers or suspension. what you got was just a shell.

Got a very nice email back from Mobile Tradition saying that the E30 was still regarded as a current car and as such wasn't part of Mobile Tradition. So I spoke to my local dealership - said that I was interested in sourcing one, and it didn't matter whether it was a 2door, 4 door, or touring.

They said they weren't sure because there were so many different part numbers that it was hard to check, but that they'd email the technical department about it and ring me back next week.

So it's not a no yet....

Gets even more interesting - just had another email from mobile tradition asking for a VIN number to determine whether a "body skeleton" might be available... I assume they wouldn't do that if there were none in existence?

It probably will be an no though, for sure there are no M3 shells available. The last few were picked up long ago an sit in private storage. You could maybe be luck and find out a touring/2 door shell is available some where in the world. what they have to do is not only check with Germany but check with the BMW Australia, South Africa and North amaerica and see if they have any lying around.

I'll do the same when I win Dan! I happen to be having a party tonight, can't wait for the look on all their faces when I find out I just won £95million pounds. Might offer to pay off all their mortgages for them. Then the b**tards who didn't bother to show'll regret it... :D

MY local dealer checked for me it was £1100+VAT for a bare 2 door shell, no bonnet, wings etc

4 doors are more and then a touring shell is something like £1700+VAT

They went NLA sometime ago. BMW AG dont have any in stock!
