E30 Zone

I have recently bought an e30 which has been converted to a 2.3 (apparnatly). But i went to an e30 specialist and they have told me its a 2.0ltr! How can i tell the difference? does anyone have any engine codes for the 2.0ltr against the 2.3? Any help would be apreciated, Cheers, Ben

2.3 would be an odd choice of conversion. How old is the car? If you ring up a dealer and quote them the chassis number they should be able to tell you what it originally had and might have the right engine number?

They are visually identical. You need to look at the engine number near the base of the dipstick and see if it starts with 20 or 23.

its an f reg black two door from ebay yes. log book was a 316, its been converted using a 2.3 out of a 5 series aparantly. i want to double check tho as iv been told a few things by different people. cheers

Problem sorted, its a 2.3. Cheers 'Andyboy'. Checked by dipstick and its got the code 23 6E C 24143505. 2.3 149bhp accordin to searches. next step is iv been told its got 2.5 injectors and inlet so will have to check them. Cheers for your help lads, much appreciated

did they make a 523 with the m20 engine

What colour are the injectors ?
