Rite im 17 in 2 weeks and been looking for insurance and no one wants to insure me ive tryed confused.com and when you ring the companys they say the wont insure me, ive heard quinn direct is good for first drivers but they wont insure cars over 15 years old (1988)
Its just as expensive in my mums name as well but a few companys said insuring it in my mums name is fraud ????
cheapest in my name is £2500
Any suggestions????
dont fancy getting front wheel drive wrongness for my first year

Car need to be registered in your Mums name, then insure with Quinn Direct, depending on your postcode should get a quote around £800 as provisional

It is fruad but meh, you are better off doing online searches as the companies I spoke too said that they charge 20% more over the phone. Directline are good well for me anyway. My Rover 214sei was about £800 with maximum NCB's under my dad's name.

it is fraud and alot of people do it but they can still refuse to pay out in the event of a crash so really not worth the risk .... i was insured by liverpool victoria before they got taken over and became lv on a 2.0S capri at 17 for £1500 tpft ...
try moneysupermarket.com they found the best one for me this time round £890 fully comp on a 318i at 19 with 3 points and 2 years ncb

As mentioned above Elephant is really good, adding a named driver who lives at the same address as you will also reduce the cost sometimes by £200-300. Selecting a limited mileage can also assist in bringing the cost down plus they do a 10 month bonus accelerator doo dah which will get you a years no claims in 10months

I insured my 325i under my mum, car in her name and me as a named driver when I was 18, and got it for about 1000 with directline , I know it sounds a lot, but it's cheap when your young!!lol.

I've been on that policy for two years now so I now have two years NCB to use at Directline, and it's now came down to 650ish, and thats with my own policy!!

Good old insurance companies got us all by the danglies ain't they.
I'm 34 driving for 17 years 7 years of which as a courier doing 100,000 miles a year with only 1 accident in the whole time ( unfortunatley last year & not my fault but had no witnesses ), I had a right game with getting quotes for my E30 320i, as i lost my 10 years no claims for driving company vans & not having a car insured for 3 years (limit is 2 years now used to be 5 years).
Anyway i started with quotes for £2,000 plus and gradualy got it down to £285 fully comp with Quotline direct, Insured by HSBC who quoted me £1,800 when i went to them direct.
Just shows it pays to shop around. I would concider insuring it in your moms name for at least the first year especialy as now you can get no claims as being a named driver on the policy.
