Hi,
I've been offered a E30 318i Lux convertible in dark grey, not sure if its dolphin grey. The car is on a J reg so i think its 1992. But its no ordinary E30, its had a M50 325i engine dropped in it, which sounds awesome and goes like ...... A part from the conversion (engine, sus and brakes i think) the car is standard. Full grey leather, BBS alloys. The guy wants £3,800, is it worth it?
Oh the car is on 80k and has FSH, the engine has 100k on it.

Well its all about what your heart is saying, but take a good look on it and see if the engine swap have been done properly. Could also be a good idea to check out eBay and Autotrader to see what price a car like that is worth with looking on other E30 cabs who is for sale.

Yes, if you're willing to pay that for it.
Any pics?

I'd want the work individually verified. The cars value again is down to what you'll pay. It's a non standard car so very difficult to evaluate.
I certainly wouldn't pay that money for it.

Yeh it might be worth asking if you can have the car verified by a garage to see the conversion has been done well. If the guy wont let you then, its probably wise to give it a wide berth

Think a couple of other zoners may have lent a hand on doing his conversion?
Ive seen the car and under the bonnet not long after it was first converted.Car was very clean inside and out and from what I remember think it was 1 owner previous to him?
Conversion wise it had only been running for a few weeks so still needed jobs doing like tidying the wiring up around the engine bay etc.
He got a bit of a slating on here but I dealt with him on a few occasions and never had a problem with him.

If it's been done right and the car in in good condition, then it's probably a good price.
You would struggle to get a good Cab and all the bits at that price I would have thought.

Agreed! Try find one as good and build it to the same spec and it would cost you more. I personaly have not seen the car or even pics but if it has been done to a good standard and the base car is in good condition then it is worth it despite what others may say.

How much do 'real' 325i Cabs go for on H/J/K plates?
From around £3K?
I'd rather be starting to look for a car that is a 325i Can from the start.
It's not an outrageous price but it should be pretty tidy for £3.8K.
In my opinion, conversions do not add value at all, even if it's it a bigger/better engine.

Well, heres a few other 325i cabs ive seen
This one is horrendously overpriced
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/295398.htm, very nice though!!!
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/301244.htm
Again this one is over priced a little, looks awesome but the mileage is far too high for that price
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/339947.htm similar price in not the best colour, mileage is a bit mile, but its got M-Tech 2 kit.

If this is tigger's car, wasn't it slated at the time for a rather bodged up installation? Or was that just to annoy the man as he was regarded as an irritating presence on the zone?
