Is this e30 touring too expensive?

I'm on the lookout for a nice late model e30 touring 318i, and am prepared to pay perhaps a little bit over the odds if its a really good example, like up to 2k, but this car is way too expensive, isn't it? Even if it does look almost concours. Is it worth the money?

If it was VERY low mileage then maybe, but its done 111k so there is bound to be some rust and wear and tear lurking somewhere. I'd say £1500 too much TBH

looks good but its got a few miles, £2k should get you a good one which is probably about what this will go for in the end you are right to be willing to pay for a good one as they are so much better and often cheaper to own in the long term than the sheds, something those on here who have never owned a good one are unable to appreciate.

That is bloody clean but wrong engine and a few too many miles for that price. Lovely looking Touring though.

thats well over priced . i picked up a 90 318 lux touring from my local bm dealer for £650 in malac green with only 76000 miles and owned by the parts manager needing a respray on the bonnet and wing mirror. so keep looking you will find a good one

imo too expensive by lots. year atleast £1000 too much.
really great exanple and £1800 might be more to the point but they are having a laugh imo.

full service history is good but........

unless you can get the price down to £2000 winkeye

Well I've spent at least that asking price on mine making it look as good as that one. Go and see it plus a few others and weigh up the costs related to the standard you are after.

Instinctively I would say it's a bit pricey though at nearly £3000. From the photos it could have just been well looked after and given a good valet. You've got to look at it and others to judge. Photos really don't do justice to a car - good or bad condition.

I agree with Toby. The camera (and whoever writes the ad.) can lie. I'm not saying that's the case here, but it's unfair to fully judge the car on the ad. alone.
I'd have to say that even if the car's as good as the ad. makes out, I wouldn't be willing to part with more than £2k tops for it.

If the pictures *are* representative, however, there might be a few people kicking themselves at not having bought it in a year or so's time.

Still a little bit toppy, mind ;)

I'm sorry but I disagree with most of you here. 3k. Thats what the guy is asking. Offer him 2500 and if he accepts?????? what you gonna do? walk for the sake of 500 quid over what your looking to pay?

That car looks mint. yes photos can lie but other than going to see the car, your never going to know. I've seen tourings with similar miles which don't look half as nice sell on here for £1500. Knowing what I know now, you can pay that all day long. You WLL spend another 2 on it to make it as nice as this looks. You can quote as much as you like that you only paid £700 for this and a grand that and all that needed painting was the bonnet but at the end of the day you compromised. It don't take much to do a grand in paint to make a car mint and then you end up with an unoriginal car.

We've all seen the 325 touring up for 5k (gold plated touring thread) and yes.......Id say that was too dear. Take this for £2500 and, if it's as clean as it looks, I don't think it's out of the way money wise. The guys obviously expecting an offer and he'd be a mug not to take 2 and a half. Let it hang about a bit and bid him.

Without seeing the car in the steel, no one can judge it. However if it's as mint as in the photos and the history all adds up, IMO it's worth a look and an offer at the very least considering it's the model you want.

A much more eloquent, yet equally erudite, version of what I was trying to say!

The black on the sill looks a bit 'fresh'

It may be clean and shiney but its only a base touring that wouldnt pull a greasy man out of bed.

I bid £600 :P

if it was a 325i i would agree with the price but since its a 318 its worth about half that :D

its a 318 touring thats had a good valet and good clean up. its got over 110000 miles on it not 20000 so will have been subjected to the everyday rough and tumble of your average e30. its got a fsh which is undoubtably a good thing but not £3000 worth of good thing . it is undeniably looking good in the pics but a good £1000 318 touring could be made to look like that with a bit of time and effort.imo i think some let their hearts rule their heads with regards to values.
but if someones willing to pay that then good luck to him.

It seems like a man's car now. Much as I hate to admit it - the E30 touring was the ultimate middle-class mum's car back in the day.

Back on topic.
Go and see this expensive thing and then...

OK, mixed views here. I wouldn't be disinclined to pay a bit more than 2k for REALLY good, totally original low mileage minter, but it would depend on a thorough inspection to verify that it is totally original ie no resprays or touch ups or sill paint.

Only problem is, I'm based in Dublin, Ireland so would need to be sure its worth the 300 mile odd trip. I agree with most here, particularly given its only a 318i, its worth £2k max - particularly with 111k miles. Mind you a saw a nice original 318i touring with 156k miles, one owner from new, full BMWSH on ebay a week ago with a starting price of 500 and a reserve of less than a grand that looked equally immaculate (from the pics anyway). Why did i not bid? I hate white.....

Its a toughie....

Right to not bid on White - wait for the one you really want.
