E30 Zone

Had a call this morning from some bloke saying he was calling from South Africa, though the number showed as 0100000000 on my screen. Told me he was interested in an E36 I was selling on ebay for £600. I said yeah sure...cash only, blah, blah, pi$$ off. Anyway he sent me an email tonight saying he wanted the car but was concerned as he saw it advertised on ebay by someone else, and provided a link to click on. Straight to the sign in page of ebay. I mailed him back to tell him I had arranged for some Ex-military Recce mates to call around and discuss what body part he would prefer was attached to a wire before being turfed out of a moving vehicle on a dirt road. Still waiting for a reply, though ebay say that the email address I got the message from was also hijacked from it's rightfull owner, and has since been restored to him. F*&%ing scam artists!
Then another one tonight again! Must be gathering funds for Xmas!

It does pay to be suspicious of anyone you don't know these days.

It's a shame we all have to be suspicious and un-trusting of other people, but it's always the minority that give everything a bad time!

Did you login through the email you got sent?

No, I checked the URL address at the top of the page to see if it was real. But as I was logged on to ebay at the time, I would have expected the site to recognise my ip address anyway. you know, where it shows your username even before you input your password. Still galls me though that idiots are scamming people all the time!

if you have the patest internet explorer it should filter this out by asking you if you really want to view the page.
it might also help you to go into my ebay, then preference on the left, then buyer requirements, then at the top there is a link to add people to your blocked bidder list. and block that account from bidding on your stuff.

its amazing how many people fall for those fake log in sites, if i get another log in screen pop up i just make up an abusive name and password, if i log in then its dodgy.

ebay really is shocking with its security lately, i had to list a phone 4 times because of hijacked accounts winning it

I'm so suspicious these days of anything like this. Like the guy above, I'm no expert on computers considering them a neccessary pain in the arse that society needs these days (i'm starting to sound like an old f4rt now?). However it's people like me and Cossie above that these vermin pray will "click the button".

Who in their right mind would accept a bankers draught for more than the cars worth, Refund the difference and at the same time see 10k of car loaded onto a low loader? In the end I was just saying, "no email enquiries, phone calls only" on the ads and any mails recieed were just ignored.

I have a particular hatred for these scum. Before I left South Africa to return to the UK after 30 years there, my wife and I were scammed out of money we could ill afford. Because it was the wife who fell for the scam, it created an uncomfortabe rift for a while, and even though it was a relativley small amount, it was the principle of the matter. The guy who pulled off the scam was an edlerly bloke too, so when I found out where he lived after tracing him for over a month, I smashed his car to pieces while he watched. His choice. I know that sounds bad, but I can't stand to see people being ripped off by lazy, scheming and coniving bas%ards!

ive had a couple of e mails from people saying theve bought items but have not received them like a 1932 lincoln continetal and a door fron a de loreion sorry about the spelling . and just contacted e bay changed everything twice in a week and it seems ok now i hope .

i keep getting emails from ebay saying.................join up to be a power seller i aint sold anything on there for 2 years there's loads of scammers trying to get your account aswell

i was tryin to sell a old zephy 6 for my dad a couple years ago not on ebay on a classic site and i hate a few mail saying if i send you a cheque for £6000 can you refund me the difference. i was like no and took the car off and sold it some where else. i hate these scams really winds me up

someone who i know had £900 taken from there bank account,it was a russian. barclays the cheeky bastards even charged him for changing the money to ruble's!

Another one they tried on me - got an email which looked EXACTLY like the ebay system email - it was a totally innocuos request- How much for postage for these items to Canada? ( I was selling some philatelic items)

I clicked on the respond button to reply and what looked EXACTLY like the new ebay log in screen came up

The only thing that made me hesitate was that my ebay user name was not pre-populated - it usually is

I looked at the address bar and sure enough - some random IP

Now Im a very experienced ebay user ( 850 odd feedbacks) and they nearly got me

ALWAYS check that where you are required to log in to any form of transactional website that the addess starts with https

Nigerian based scamming ion the increase, news announces a laptop for every nigerian child scheme, pilot successful, more laptops to follow...

I fell for the 'you have been suspended from Ebay' one and logged on to the following link..went to ebay and found i had not been suspended and immediately changed my passwords...got the powerseller one later ..just forwarded it to the ebay spoof address...I was lucky ..nothing untoward happened

My account was recently hijacked without me knowing apparently. Ebay sent me some mail saying that using spyware and worms they have logged my passwords using a keytracking program. HSBC then sent me something through the post saying a similar thing has happened. Pretty sickening.
