E30 Zone

hi zoners, i,ve just took my tech1 sport out ,first time ever, the roads aint wet just a little damp, I,ts just a bit scary to drive ,if a bit heavy,not even hard the slightest jab on throttle 1st 2nd. the back kicks way out ,Is this the norm???or tyres 9 year old mitcelin rain??/shit?will a new set of say toyo proxies solve this?? and what size 205,50 15 or 195 45 15?? hope you can help , thanks ray

i'd put it down to shite on the roads.

a couple of weeks ago it was just as cold, but not all that slippery, today i had a couple of moments and actually backed off a bit on my drie to work.

only difference being that this week they started gritting the roads. i don't know how it's supposed to improve safety, but the roads have suddenly lost a lot of grip. i think i'd rather cope with frost at night / in the morning rather than greasy slippery roads all day long.

at one point i was getting rolling 2nd gear wheelspin, which i dont even get from a brutal 1st to 2nd gearchange in the wet.

probably not the best time of year to take your grunty, light, rwd rubbish tyred car out for the first time!

decent tyres and suspension work are probably needed.

I'd look into a decent set of tyres first - did you mean yours are 9 years old?

if they're 9 years old, bin them ASAP! they'll be totally screwed by now. michelins are know for being hard too so will be a bit more prone to losing grip than a softer tyre.

if the roads are gritted, (they have been round here) then it'll be slippery as hell. i managed to get wheelspin consistently in 3rd earlier. once or twice in 4th but i do have more power and torque than you

Roads very greasy at the moment,even my fart powered R5 keeps spinning (1st only mind!) I only ever pootle around in it and am still finding bends are to be taken with more caution than usual.

as steve-e30 its very slippy tonight, ive lost it and gained control a few times tonight.

but i suppose it makes driving abit more interesting

Id get a set of Toto proxes first. They aren't too expensive either. Then think about getting a suspension kit or something. car will look better and drive sooo much better.

In the wet you cant really go that fast in an e30 but you can have a hell of a lot of fun trying.lol

With this being your first time out its a bit hard to gauge whether its the roads or the car since you don't have a comparison with good weather.... but I'd suggest getting the rear subframe bushes checked and also the rear shocks/topmounts. Its quite possible that they are fine and its just the road/tyres but it would be a good precaution.
And bin those tyres ASAP. Personally I'd go for the recommended size of 205/55/15 but I'm an old fart (35) and value my arse more than my looks
