Hi just wondered if all new bearings are plastic, I've bought a LUK clutch kit for my 325i which seems identical to original BMW kit fitted to my car except the bearing. The original one looks chunky is all metal and really well made, the new one has a really thin metal bearing face and is part plastic it does look strong at all as a matter of fact it looks....er....shite!

I'm half tempted to stick the old one back in!!!

Even new BMW clutch release bearings are plastic.

Make sure the guide tube is free from oil and grease before you fit the bearing, the plastic wears quickly with oil and grease present.

Thanks, I'm just about to put it back together so timely advice.

Other thing i noticed is how slack a fit bearing is on guide tube, so its hardly gonna stick!

another reason to make sure its free from any oils or graese's is these can end up on the clutch plate and then burn on to it and cause slipping..

I think the reason they wear out is because there shit, the bearings not even centred on the guide
I'll see how long it lasts before it falls apart

Or is the right hand side the top ?

Dont worry about the center ofset, the original bearing is the same, the inner sleve is design to move within bearing, its quite stiff but you can re- centre it by hand if you want I guess idea is under pressure it will self centre.
