Idea for the October car of the month?

How about well-loved tatty white F-reg 4-door 320i's on road-trips round Scotland? I'd have a chance then.
Slightly more seriously though, it would be cool to have one where you can't enter it if you paid over £400 for the car. Would be good to get a car on the banner which is proof of what a year or two of TLC to an old s**tter can do, instead of just buying a well-maintained example. Especially as E30zone is to some extent about preserving these cars, which occasionally means rescuing the ones almost at the gates of the scrapyard. If anyone supports the idea, a simple "Aye" underneath will do. If you don't support it, don't post

Don't want a democratic poll as it might not go my way - I'm a bit like Gordon Brown...
Edit: I didn't mean the "Aye" literally - you are allowed to talk aswell

Otherwise it'll just turn into another damned pirate thread...

surely the amount subsequently spent should be capped too... by sub £400 shitter I interpret it as the whole thing, start to 'finish' costing less than that... maybe with the exception of wheels...
Can you see what i did there?
Basically... I think a category where only I can enter would be great. Its the only way I'll stand a chance of winning.

Mine is a sub £400 shitter
Or are you talking about money spend overall?
Thing is its car of the month, not shitter of the month.. Putting them into classes ie m40 etc is cool, but i think money is goin a bit far, you dont have to spend alot to get a nice, clean etc e30 imo

in all seriousness I do agree with jhonno. (though I am disappointed with the amount of r's in your post),
It would be nice to have a month for 'budget' e30's and one for 'more money than sense' ones... but maybe wait until all the other 'factory' classes have been exhausted?
There's a lot of different engines, body styles etc to get through and they do, by nature, cover all types of e30.

so you are basically going for the "only shitty matt black touring that no-one else would buy or want" category?
well done.

Handbags ladies. In all seriousness we should have one for the worst modifyed e30. You have to have the consent of the owner before you submit it though or it could all get a bit nasty

Getting back on topic....

No I wasn't meaning the total spend being capped at £400 - I was meaning the original car being bought for less than £400, and then being brought up to scratch by spending money, hard work, or a combination of the two. No offence intended to the guys that had more intelligence and spent more on a decent car to start with, but thought it would be nice to have a "rags to riches" story...
People seemed fairly positive before Munky c**ked things up?

Was only joking in the first post about only positive comments - want to hear both opinions. Just thought it would be a nice tribute to the zone too as most of the cars that are back in decent nick having previously been s**tters will owe a hell of a lot to the knowledge present on here.

Sounds like a plan I reckon, I mean some of the cars on here which have had a lot of effort bunged into it should definately be recognised.

I think its a shit idea.
The cost of the original car means nothing if 20k's been spunked on it to take it to a shop for a rebuild/conversion etc etc.

I did actually say effort, not so much £Â£Ã‚£ chucked at it. I reckon more for people who buy a bag of crap, and fix it up themselves for instance. Or throw blackboard paint at it, which personally I think looks uber cool. I'm all up for saluting those who are not afraid to do it themselves.

its a good idea from the restoration point of view.
If each submission includes a brief rundown on the history of whats been done to the car.
At the end of the day bobby-billionare who pays a team of mechanics to shine up his latest toy hasn't done cu*t-all.
Munky on the other hand has a cool looking ride... the lip spoiler repair was genious!

just cause someone has money but not ability they should be excluded?
also restoration is never 'cheap'

mine is.
Though some would argue that my project is almost perfectly opposite to a 'restoration'...

yup... i'd not exactly call yous a restoration munky..
Re: Idea for the October car of the month?

by munky30
why?
Its being kept alive.
Maybe 'preservation' is a better term.
Just because the styling of a project isnt to everyone's taste, surely keeping another e30 on the road, in whatever form, should be appreciated.
If it wasnt matt black, a lowered (rust free apart from a bit on the scuttle) e30 on fat dishes would be spunked all over by many, like others on the zone... but because its matt black its just a shed.
f*ck you all with your gay shiny cars.

While you spend your weekends polishing yours, I DRIVE mine... a concept that seems alien to many.

well then there's the question -is somebody who can't be arsed to learn about the car they claim to adore deserving of the same credit as somebody who gets a Bentley manual and learns about car or at least does a little bit at a time thus avoiding large bills?
In short no nobody should be excluded but its fair i think to say that its as much about the effort as the result.
Do you see where I'm coming from Jhonno?

I would have agreed with this, except I paid £410 for mine.. Have certainly paid a lot more in the past 6 months keeping her running!
Can I be allowed in as the previous owner thought the bidding had ended at £400? I'm just too honest..
