i'm not worried it's only a bolt on panel, mine is uber milege and ok as is my spare tailgate

Is simon right? is it a bolt on panel? :hopeful:
If not i'll clean it up. I suppose just cut back to good metal as it is an unseen panel.?
I guess that what you get for having an E30 that spent the last 15years parked on the seafront all day.

15 years on the see front!! Not bad going. I had a Starion that was 2 owners and 60k miles, but about the only bit that wasn't rusty was the glass. That was only 8 years on the seafront.
Salt, you gotta love it!

had a gander at mine, its just starting to creep in! tho it probably looks like yours did 10 years ago.
anyhoo, im in the market for a good tailgate in lachs silver?? anyone?? its going at the bottom corners, and under the bottom edge of the window. ive had it painted bout 4 months ago, but its coming back under the paint!!

mine is relatively good. a few rust stains from teeeeeny sport but nowt else.
i'd hazzard a guess it's been replaced at some stage. repairs always rust out first. it may have been more than a decade ago though...

Mine has very minor scabby rust on the panel, just about to respray the panel though...
I've even got a new rubber seal for the thing I bought about 2 weeks ago...

Just checked mine and about 2" resembles a Cadburys flake, but a bit more edible. The rest is good thankfully.....

You will be suprised how much rust you will find on some of these cars when you start poking them with chisels and screwdrivers

After seeing this post I checked my '89 320 and all was O.K. Went to buy another Touring on Sat, I gave it a good check but thankfully all was O.K. ('93 316)

Checked mine yesterday, bit of surface stuff on the lip but nothing to worry about in the next few days, will sort it with the rest of the bodywork
