My 323i

Hi all, I am new to this forum from Sydney australia and have a 323i that I have built up as a track and everyday driver. I've done suspension mods and upgraded the brakes and i'm quite happy with the handling at the track, just have to play around with different road/track tyre brands. I've rebuilt the motor with a really good intake set-up getting about 175 hp at the wheels. I still have to put in the piggyback computer and program it, should get a little more out of it. I'm thinking of stroking it or putting a m50 vanos motor in. Has anyone stroked a 2.3l to 3 or 3.2 litre? I know the usual mod is to put a 325e crank and rods and bore and deck the block. I haven't been able to find much info on the 2.3's most people have the 325's and the 323's didn't come out in the US. If anyone's interested I will post some photos and any advice would be much appreciated. I'm also having lots of trouble finding parts for my dogleg close ratio getrag gearbox, I need the 1st gear set.

Here are some photos, It a work in progress, some 16" wheels are on the way.

More info on the mods soon. In your opinion is 175bhp for a 2.3 good?

Bloody amazing! 175BHP @ the wheels, considering they only made 150BHP @ the crank when new...

175bhp @ the wheels is not bad
So what would it be putting out at the crank 200bhp ?
Have you got a turbo ?
I may be getting another 2.3

There aren't many different pistons available for the 323 but I fitted a set that would give me the most compression. Quick hone, although it may have been to much as the pistons were a little loose, it had already been bored in a last rebuild so pistons were allready oversize. The cyl head was machined and lots and lots of porting. I fairly mild cam with non gen excentrics which are a pain to adjust. I first match ported the 323 inlet manifold and head to 325i gasket size, now i have a 325i inlet man with a bored out 325i throttle housing. A good set of extractors and that's about it. I'm looking forward to fitting the piggyback computer to see if i can get any more out of it. On the dyno the standard ecu goes very rich at just over 4000rpm.
I would like to try a different cam or maybe a turbo but a 3 or 3.2 litre sounds enticing.

Have you converted it to the later motronic ?
I fitted the 325 inlet/throttle body to mine.
Are you sure it wasnt 175 bhp at the flywheel ?

Wow i thought it was way harder to get that kind of power from a 323, are you running stock L-jetronic still or did you do other stuff? This is what i want to do to my 323.
