i took the bumpers off to get painted and have now decided to get stuck into the underside cleaning and painting everything. what i need to know is can u do the floor and arches etc with hammerite or is it a waste of time should i just waxoil it instead ?

I would at least use Waxoil although ive heard and read that Dinitrol (think thats what its called) is better but more expensive.
I think the Dinitrol stuff is self repairing if it gets chipped too.

Ill be doing this job myself before the winter months.

you would just use waxoil then? and paint the other suspension parts etc i really want to go to town and have everything clean as. waxoil is a messy buisness and i will be doing it from my back so want it easy as well

I am no expert on these things but id certainly use waxoil or similar on the archs and floor, i am dreading the job myself but i think long term its the best way to prevent rust but i could be wrong.

Anyone else had experience treating these area's?

I used car body under seal by Hammerite with extra Waxoyl added - from Halfords £10.00

Its not too bad in the wet, the power and torque kick in more up top as it was built with track use in mind. unless i am caining it its not too bad but still have to be carefull.

I never went out in your car but from what ive heard you have more low down grunt.
Good to hear the GUGs still going strong

Just don't do what some stupid Yanks did (bury a brand new car in a concrete time capsule and dig it up 50 years later!)

that waxoyl balck underseal stuff is top notch, and i use the clear inside the doors and use an aerosol can with straw to get into all the little holes, (i likes litte holes!)arf arf

I bought some 3M body schutz, which is supposed to remain flexible. Plan to do the arches first and then touch any areas underside then rather than coating the whole lot.

My experience with Waxoyl was a pretty poor one. I bought the tin and applicator gun, warmed the waxoyl in hot water but as soon as it came out the gun is congealed straight away and the only thing that got covered was my f**king overalls! Bought aerosol cavity wax afterwards (tereson by Henkel) which is very handy for inside sills etc, but very thin.
