Which headlights for my M3??

im currently sporting 2 types of headlamps on my M3, the drivers side one has been replaced, i know this because there is one identical to the passenger side in the boot with brocken fixings on it

Anyway, can somone, preferably wearing an anorak (although a similar style mac will do) tell me the part numbers for both headlamps as i want to replace them for new ones :D

also both fogs would be sweet as one has a broken bracket and the other is a rather nasty shade of brown :(

You should be able to get the part numbers you need from either http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do or http://bmwfans.info/original/

(I say 'should' because I've never checked to see if M3 parts are listed there - if not, I apologise for leading you up the garden path...)

Ta,

these are the facelift type, and thus any facelift E30 lights will fit, as for smoked lights they are no longer available from Hella but you can make your own, i wrote a guide on how to do it, click articles at top of page, then tech articles then DIY smoked lights.

what you actaully have are one set of lights called a smiley (your passenger side) and one set of non-smileys, the only difference between the two is the plastic reflector inside. If you follow my guide you can easliy replace this part from a broken set in your boot, or a scrap yard.

the fog lights are different, i think they are specific to the M3 (as the indicators definately are) but the foglights from a pre-facelift may fit, they appear to be the same but not sure about the size and brackets

nice car otherwise, i like the colour

Fog lamp part numbers:

Left 63 17 1 381 419
Right 63 17 1 381 420

Also, they are the same as pre-facelift. Funny - I was asked this the other day and was convinced they were unique to the M3...

Replaced my headlight units a few years ago, got them from GSF. just replaced my foglights a few weeks ago, bought the complete foglight from GSF which was cheaper than a replacement glass from BMW. You have to be carefull with the foglights and look what type of mounting bracket you have fitted behind the bumper, Mine was from a 635 which was what the dealers fitted at the time if the origional owner ticked the foglight box. If you haven't got a mouting bracket I suggest you get them from a scrappie.

I just looked and interestingly GSF sell the fog lights under the same part No as BMW 63 17 1 375 067/068. GSF part No's for M3 headlights 63 12 1 386 407/408. You will note that these fog light p/n are different to the ones that Chris-W has listed in his reply. So be careful before you splash the cash. The info I'm giving you is just what's fitted to my M3

Same part listed on the ETK Gareth, yep. Bracketry differs, but unit is the same number.

Can you buy the Hellas in the UK?

I have the last set of genuine smoked Hellas sat in their boxes, complete with all brand new frames, fittings, plugs, adjusters etc.

My father in law worked for Hella UK, he did a parts inventory on Hella Germany and they had 3 sets left. I bought all 3 sets.

1 set is on my tourer, Ian332isport has 1 set and the last set is boxed up still sat in my garage. I'll sell for best offer over £300.

Yes you can get them on ebay.de still but stock held is disappearing and Hella apparently had no plans to make any more.

Also factor in postage and the fact you may end up having to pay import tax on any bought from Germany, plus the fact they may not turn up at all...

SO if you're interested offers over £300 invited. If I don't sell them they can sit on my shelf for a few years, they aren't going to become worth any less! :D

4x100, and need to clear my WMS calipers (reason I sold my RS003s - they didn't :( ).

To be honest though, I could do with the cash hence I'm offering them for sale, otherwise I'd be keeping them on the shelf...

...feel free to tempt me with wheels though. I am liable to cave in as I need to feed my fetish. :D

Definitely go for the smoked headlights, with clear inidicators.

Ditch the foglights, and get some ducts in there.
