That is the back plate of the flux capacitor -for time travel use. 88mph is the key speed

Its sits in the boot under the shelf for the rear mounted battery and the tube goes onto the battery breather pipe fitting.

Looks like the battery breather box that connects to the side of a rear mounted battery. The tube vents through the rear panel behind the bumper.

as a self confessed technical retard, and if you dont mind me asking... why does a battery need a breather?

Because batteries give of Hydrogen when they are charged. Due to the fact the battery is enclosed in the boot, the hydrogen needs to be vented outside.

If they didn't do this, and you fancied a ciggy while driving, it could all go horribly wrong

Well done mate, but mine was under the tray, unless it had slipped!!

Because batteries give of Hydrogen when they are charged. Due to the fact the battery is enclosed in the boot, the hydrogen needs to be vented outside.

If they didn't do this, and you fancied a ciggy while driving, it could all go horribly wrong

I'll take a stab and say as the battery gets warm the acid inside it can give off fumes on older batteries especialy and as this battery would be technicly within the cabin then a breather was deemed necassary?

Mine is a little different to that, and pokes diectly in the side of the battery.

So for a rear mount battery do you need to buy a special battery? My one in the (right place) engine bay on the tourer has nothing that lookms like a breather could be attached if need be...

im thinkin your engine bay may be rather better ventilated than your boot.
