Scorpion exhaust

Hi guys,

Would a Scorpion exhaust (not sure of its model number) taken off a 1990 325 fit my 1989 320 cab?
My cab does have a twin pipe inlet into its current back box. The seller says he paid £350 for it and is sold as a complete system.

Is this any good for my cab or is the Scorpion just a bit too loud and â€Ëain your face' for a cab etc.

All thoughts and opinions are most welcome

Cheers

they are loud and not for cabs imo, very hollow sounding and they wail!

i think you would need to fit the whole system as the 320 system is a slighlty smaller bore size on the pipes but i'm not 100% sure on that

Hi Simon

Cheers for that, I thought that might be the case but wanted to check it out on the Zone. Probably need a Sebring or something similar

Thanks

Mark

I think the noise of a whole Scorpion system would drive you mad for everyday driving, imo. I've compromised and have standard factory downpipes and centre box and a Scorpion Le Mans back box. That way the car's quiet inside and sounds great outside - a nice powerful low burble. The other thing is that with the bigger bore and tless back pressure you will lose a lot of torque under about 3000 rpm. It'll sound good but will be slower.

IMHO the scorpion is too loud in anything, let alone a cab.

TBH it's down to individual taste; "horses for courses" and all that ;)

Scorpions are the don, the hollow sound of a straight 6 is better than anything TVR can come up with!

it's an aquired taste which you either love or hate!

Hi guys

As always a healthy and enlightening the Zone.
As Jonnyrob says its horses for courses and we all love our own individual E30s for what they are.

Not sure now what do at the present time but will keep looking —a any ideas are gladly welcomed.

Many thanks

i have scorpion back box on an ontherwise standard system, sounds great and you dont lose any tourque, well you may but its not noticable.

i have to drive up to my house really slowly so i dont wake the neighbours, but i dont care the slower you go the deeper the burble :D winkeye

The back Box alone would no way lose you torque.

It's that centre section which makes the real hollow noise.

Simon13's Touring with RD and Scorpion sounds like V8!

I dont know if they are different for a 6 pot but the scorpion I took off my M3 strangled the power and was very very loud.

If you want a nice sounding pipe then get yourself a Miltek

Hi guys —a take 2

Really interesting discussion and thanks for all the opinions so far. I have another bit to add now:

Where can I buy a decent quality £300 or less if possible complete stainless steel system?
Perhaps of just changing the back box maybe a complete system that's designed for the 320 cab would be a better bet?
Living in good old â€Ëarip off' Surrey its hard to find a good deal but perhaps the Zoners might have an idea where?

Also I have been quoted for a new SS complete system with 2 prices: one with a single pipe joining the twin pipes from the manifold and then going into the back box and another price for keeping 2 pipes throughout the entire system.
Does this really make a difference have 2 pipes all the way through or is one pipe no difference?

I look forward to the healthy debate!!! 8)

Cheers again

custom ones normally work ok as you get exactly what you want, had one on my 'ahem' mondeo :o:

in my opinoin dont use powerflow though, mate had one and it rusted away 'stainless steel my a** it was blood magnetic'

Parker get down to the next guildford meet and you can hear some scorpions first hand. Then you can really make your mind up!

Hi Simon

Great idea, trouble is everytime i try and get to the Guildford meet something gets in the sodding way (like next months already).
The great escape from BK sounded really funny. Would be really good to get the lowdown on other E30's before i make the wrong choice of what exhaust is best for my cabby.

Hope to see you all soon!

Cheers
