Just on a side note for anyone interested in the south, Alloy Magic in Creekmoor assembled my old split rims for £35 which I thought was a bargain considering it took me nearly two hours to do one 8O

Is that the place behind Pro-tyre's? If so they quoted me £80+Vat each to paint some BBS... 8O

Yea that's the place. £80 is a bit steep though!!

To be honest if it's painting you need doing then there's a place up near Ryvita that I walked into and got some bloke to sand blast then paint my old splitties for £35, the name escapes me :?

I havnt found a decent place yet, steer clear of A1 Wheels though, nothing but rob dogs IMO

I will be trying out laptab though, depending on their quote 8)

and whatever you do dont send them to ace performance in lanarkshire as they are sh1ter than a pile of sh1te in a sh1te factory.

about ready to get mine done but cant decide where.
heard metal magic in rotherham are good but no personal experience
fancy powder coat as oposed to paint as its more durable
i also need someone who can straighten the lip out on my spare where its been rolled over in some kind of careless curb incident.not me!

Something to look for when you get your rims back after refurb' is to scrape off the powder spray from the inner spigot centre where the wheel locates on the hub - go in @ 4mm.
The whole rim gets a thick coat of powder coating and if this is not removed from the bore where it locates on your hub it will go on when you fit your wheel and tighten the bolts up, when you come to remove the wheel it is a different story as you will end up having to pry it off the hub.

Not cheap, but ok.

I had the central bore reduced on wheels for my E39!.

Cheers Gareth.

I know it is out of the way for you lot but 100% worth the trip or I will pay for the work myself !!!!

Mike at the blast shop Thursby Nr Carlisle drop them off tyres are removed and valves, chemically dipped to return to bare alloy all repairs done painted to whatever you want lacquered or turned in a lathe for polished rims if you so wish.

Tyres refitted with new valves and stick on lead weights for balancing, absolutely as "out of the box" he has done alot of sets of wheels for me i sent the last lot of BBS without centre caps which he will also do and when they came back paint shade matched the centre caps exactly after i had asked for standard BMW finish/shades.

£50 pun a wheel extra tenner for centre caps.

There is a gadgy in these parts does it from a van in an afternoon much cheaper apparently.....................yeah OK

I used Lepsons to refrurb my original Alpinas I think it came to just under £50 a corner. They came back looking the dogs. I've had 2 probs tho both stemmming from the amount of paint they put on, that is a lot. First was on track. The wheels were really tight but the extra stress put on them caused the paint around the wheels nuts to diintegrate and they all came loose. Very scary. The second has been that on one wheel the paint on the flat outer edge came off in an almost complet circle. It's beginning on another wheel now too. There's an interesting article on alloy refurbishment in the BMW Club Magazine (arrived this morning) and they feature a company called Pristine ( I think, I'm not at home now). They sound the business but they didn't quote any prices. Having said what I've said about Lepsons, they did a good job on my 15" BBSs which Sal had off me.

Im not saying they dont know what they are doing, but IMO they are rob dogs, I had 2 rims with some light flatspots on the inside I wanted sorting. I had previously phoned up and asked for a price, £45 per wheel on the understanding that the wheels were fitted to the car and needed to be removed etc.
I removed the tyres myself and took them in as bare rims and he still wanted £45 per wheel even though they were on the counter. :x
