After converting the 323 to motronic I took it down the road and bang it dropped a valve, hole in number 2 piston.
Not sure if to re build or sell up.
£95 for one piston plus all the parts to put it together looking at £250 if not more.

Ed, turn your gaff upside down until you find those missing pistons.
Or I know where there's an engine for £100 if you're interested.
Did you get a chance to evaluate the Motronic conversion?

I have been turning the place upside down beleave me.
Didnt get time to run the new chip in, I wasnt going mad in it, its just one of those things.
I now think its time for me to get the body work done and then see what engine turns up, I have found a 525e a 525 m50 and a 735 manual. oh and a 318is

Why, when it was probably making 2.5 power and more then 2.5 torque??

Cor i had worse than that when a valve seat dropped on my old 520i
back in 1996.
The valve was fine ... the seat just got mushed to buggery because i
drove it 3 miles home with the whole car shuddering like a dumper truck!!
I bunged in a new piston ... with a complete set of rings on all six, replaced
all the main and big end bearings, cleaned up and skimmed the head, and
ran the old k-jetronic fuelled banger for another 3 years.
(P.S: The valve seat issue started to make itself known a year earlier
by doing the odd tick-tick-tickety-tick every week or so for a few seconds,
where the seat was following the valve up and down ... eventually
metal fatigue cause it to fall to bits.
