Performance Upgrades

Dont really see many people on here talking about Brakes, Steering engine mods for E30's....

Things i really want Brake upgrade...I.E 4 pot calipers with Bigger disc's for use on track days...Are there any different models that the brakes will swop so it is all factory????

Steering, Is there a quick rack avalable for the E30? Non-power steering version that will impprove the car??

Coil-overs for the obvious...?

So come on tell us what you have got, What upgrades do you use to make the E30 better? 8)

Quick rack from E36 available, makes a much better car to drive.

H&R Cup kit is a fantastic suspension kit + some thicker anti roll bars.

Engine mods....remap, MAF conversion + Schrick Cam. 2.7 conversion really enhances the drive.

Depends what your budget is and how much your prepared to spend on your car.

Whats clear is that you can turn an average performing 325i into a very quick and enjoyable car to drive.

i dont really wana go the 2.7 route but other mods i am interested in.

I have recently come from the dark side(ford) where i have had 6 different Rs's over the last ten yrs from the fiesta turbo, escort and a cossie, and over that side of things it is a massive industry and most forums are full of performance talk...

Does the E36 quick rack fit without mods? Anyone on here done it so i can pick their brains....? Where do people go for their parts?

H&R cup kit, who has fitted it and feedback?

Ive fitted the E36 rack to mine.

I havent driven it yet, but I have been towed for a short distance behind another car and the quicker steering was noticeable.

Write up is good, sounds like a well done conversion, that is definatly a job i will be looking in to. Anything over the e30 50 turns lock to lock will be an improvement.

with this rack u can't have a 6 branch? a 325i with a cam,chip and few other bits can unleash the beast within, ask Ant and Zaust they have both had cars with a healthy performance upgrade over a stock 2.5 lump

Simon, thanks for that, i think brakes are my first priority a decent set of fronts and then look in to sorting the rears.

Where abouts in Bracknell are ya, obvioulsy dont give the address but the area, as i used to live there. I used to live in Nettlecombe in Crown Wood.

How long you lived there????

I dont think a 6 branch like the Hartge or any designed to fit the E30 will work with the E36 rack conversion cause the steering joint is in a different position.

You could modify one or get one custom made.

Exactly my point, I know a few of my mates who have decent powered (300bhp+) cossies who are planning on more work and still run std brakes 8O

A decent brake upgrade and weight loss is as good as a bhp upgrade....

Who runs 4 pots or bigger brakes on the BB, as i just want some feedback on the kits....?

I cant say much, I will be running my S50 conversion with E30 325i brakes for a while :roll:

Ive looked around at some different big brakes kits, but as I havent decided whether or not to go M3 5stud yet I cant really buy anything.

The likes of Tarox and Movit do nice kits but they are Ԛ£1200+. Tarox do a 285mm 6pot kit that fits behind the orginal 15" BBS.

The Wilwood kits seem to be good and cheap. Around Ԛ£450-500 for a 280mm 4pot kit, again for 15" wheels. Although I think you need to get the caliper mounting brackets made up yourself.

I will be buying the calipers seperate and then having brackets made to custom fit, I was woundering, do any other bmws run 4 pots as this would be alot easier to fit a salvage yard and source and service the parts that way.

Hoses and stuff like that is easy to come buy.

Sorry, I couldnt tell you which BMs have 4pot calipers.

But about 2yrs ago my local BM specialist said something about a conversion using the calipers from an E23 745i turbo that he had in his workshop.

I dont think we got the 745i turbo in the UK (and their old now) so the parts are probably very difficult to find.
Maybe some of the newer 7series or 5series have 4 pot calipers??

before going the 4pot route, ask Karan he has some top ferrodo pads on his 2.7 beast and that puppy stops on a sixpence, not sure what disks he has might be ATE's.

Zimmerman and pagid fastroads are also a popular and proven formula. U can do these with out going for bigger disks.

I live in Crowthorne Joe, Crownwood is one of the better areas! Most

Most BM's are single pot sliding calipers, not a bimmer strong point ask E46 M3 CSL owners!

Crowthorne is quite nice m8. Crown wood was nice when we moved there in 84' but then got worse with all the young scrotes...

Im gona need some big brakes tho as im not too sure that std euipment will last on track for too long.....

Karan's brakes are good but still based on e30 hardware. You want to feel brakes? Sit in a 3.8 M5.

The e30 needs all the help it can get in terms of braking and even with cross drilled brakes and performance pads its shit.

If you afford 4 pots go for it.

It may be based on e30 hardware, but it's better than some newer cars.

I don't think it's that far off an E36 M3, and they use e34 M5 brakes!

EDIT: A four pot set-up would be great though!

Sal..... they didnt even warm up when i took u out LOL

i have yet to fade them... ferodo 3466 compound with ate discs....the hero dave has spoken..... the ones on mine are fine unless u put a heavier engine in....

id love a wilwood 4 pot kit though... its great value too....
