The Truth about E30 BBS RS...

Basically, I and half the planet wants these for their E30's. I know they're not made anymore and they're very hard and expensive to get used.

I wwanted to try one last time and ask if there is ANY way of tracking these down?

Failing that I have a plan B - replicas!

I found these knocking about the USA for $600 (£305)!
Image

Now, I would usually never put replicas on my cars. But as these RS' are finished then this is what I have to do for the look. They'll at least do till some real one's surface.

A few questions:
1) How crap are reps compared to real BBS'.
2) What offset should I be checking when on looking for these?
3) What widths did the original E30 BBS RS BBS come in?
4) If I did a 5-stud M3/E36 hub conversion, would that open up more possibilities of tracking down original 16" BBS RS'?

As always, much appreciated.

What's the talk about Koing?

I have 2 suppliers at the moment for these. They say they are 1 piece and correct fit for an E30 but use a plastic ring for a 'clean mating contact' to quote the sales guy in California.

From what I can gather, replica wheels are not as light as originals and the tolerances are not as tight regarding roundness and offset etc.

Having said that, those wheels do look awesome.

Mmmm, they look dam cool. Very tempting. Would prefer a set of real ones or Image ones though.

But are they better quality technically/physically than something like the Konigs?

I have also found this on eBay USA:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 668&rd=1,1

Rang the seller and he said they are nice 1-piece wheels, he sells loads and they are a blatant replica of the BBS RS. They are even stamped BBS, which is a little cheeky.

Image are quality wheels, theres a thread about knoigs and there wern't suppose to be that good quality

I started a thread about these and had interest from 10 folk. I was in contact with Konig in the states to supply ten sets, including import duty and tax and they came to £450 a set, but when it came to folk putting their money where their mouth is no one wanted a set. go figure.

Well, we don't need 10 orders. I have an address in the US they can ship to and then get my buddies to forward them here.

Before I do that though I just wanted to know if they're total shit?

it is worth lurking on the VW forums if you are looking out for BBS RS as they often come up on there.

The VW boys don't seem to mind too much running spacers/ adaptors in order to fit 5 stud wheels too.

Was trying to get some specific info asked on the first post buddy, not start a BBS RS photo-party.

spot on. look in performance vw mags. there are plenty of suppliers of these wheels. theyre not difficult to get hold of but they are top dolla!
the image wheels are stunning but are not far from the price of the bbs's but i would assume they are Vgood quality

Which wheels are you talking about exactly? Original BBS or replicas like the Konigs?

That eBayer is no longer a member. The justmatz looks interesting tho.

i'm talking about original bbs rs. as youve said they are not made anymore but there are lots of places that still say they have them or can get them. I was planning on getting some a few months back and found a few places in vw mags and at golf meets that said they could supply me with some. but at around 300 per wheel for 15"

i went to a GTI day at santapod last year (cant remember the exact name of the event) but there were at least 5 sets for sale at different stands around the place. they were asking 250 per wheel

£300 per wheel for 15" is not cool.

Would pay £1200 max for mint used 16's.

I'll keep 'em peeled but in the mean time, some tasty reps might do the trick...

I got a quote of some guy including shipping in the US for £300 for some fakeness.

tbh i'd go for the reps mate. how much better can the real deal be to warrant spending an extra 8-900 spondulas
i just decided to polish the lip on my standard 15" bbs fo free

I think a crisp set of 16" RS, new or like new is worth £1200.

Don't think they're worth months of looking and then more dough.

15" Crosspokes, BBS RS and Alpinas are the ONLY wheels to put on an E30.

£1200 will get you a 'good' set. It's easy to sink £2k+ into a set if you want wide dishes, chromed proper BBS bolts, etc., etc., though.

The thing is it's an investment. Money in RS is like money in the bank. Buy a set of snide copies and not only are you running fakey jakey wheels, you'll also get poor dollar back when you want rid.

What I don't understand is that they are out there for sale and nobody on here buys them, yet a thread comes up every other week and everyone says they are buying a set. I bought my set off this very site for £500 as nobody else showed any interest. The guy even bought them to my door for that price. When I wanted to sell, I advertised mine on here and hardly got any response. The VW boys snapped them up for more than I advertised them for.

It's simple. If you want some, put your money where your mouth is and do some legwork. I could put my hands on 4 or 5 sets of RS003s right now.

What I'm struggling to find is some Porsche fitment ones that aren't stupid 930 Turbo widebody offset. That's the only way I'm going to get 16" RS on with my brakes.
