Manual Rack fitted to my E30

Never had one with a manual rack before. The car is a 325i. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what this might be from. Is the standard 325i power rack 4.4 locks turn to turn?

I am trying to grab a handle on what is already on the car (appreciate going in blind is not always the best way).

Any suggestions welcomed.

325's had manual rack as standard until 1989 i think although se's had pas and many other cars had them. I like manual steering but in city conditions it would be a pain and some people seem to find it unduly irksome. It can be changed to PAS with a second hand rack from a power steering equipped car.

The manual rack is ok, painfully slow, but then so is the pas rack. You just need to keep the car on the move when steering otherwise it's a pain.

Ed, I have a spare manual rack...

Yeah I am not worried about converting it back. Just wondered if the manual rack was a standard 325i item, which it appears to be.

Thanks peeps.
