I think this is a worth while petition for all us to sign as E30s can be insured as classic cars.

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/historiccart ... 096.efaf85

worth 5 mins of your time.

I've done it. Hope you don't mind, but I'm going to post the link on Planet E30.
The early '70's cut-off is ridiculous. It would be far better to have a (20 year??) rolling cut-off.

Job done... I agree there, a rolling cut off would make alot more sense !

IIRC it used to be a 25 year cut off

1972? 1997? 25 year gap. Anything to do with Labour coming to power? Probably. :(

Mine's insured as a classic... HIC say anything over 15 years is a classic, mine made the cut by 8 months ... although I do think it would be good to be tax exempt..

signed.

20 years would be fairer, 25+ is too much.

It always used to be 25 years, the GT6 just about scraped into the tax free bracket.

The petition is for rolling classic car tax exemption, not insurance!

20 or 25 years won't happen, if we're lucky it'll be 30 or 35.

The arguement for the original 25 year rolling exemption was based on there being less vehicles, most of which require regular expendature on maintenance and restoration. At the time a majority of the vehicles that qualified were built in the uk and there was and still is a thriving industry in the uk supporting all of this. Move this forward 20 years and the whole arguement is a lot different.

Yes, but a 1974 cutoff is rather arbitrary (and was recently changed from the 1973 cutoff for some odd reason :? ), and harsh on the owners of classic 1980s vehicles, say.

Also, a good deal of cars were built in the UK right up until the present day, including dare I say it, some Jap cars.

You E30 owners should be uprising in protest! :soap:
