E30 Zone

Apologise if this sounds like a daft question but i was just wondering, seeing as i have had mine dropped 60mm all around and now fitted with the tech 2 kit (oooh yeah!), what do you guys carry with you to aid you for when you have a sudden punture and need to jack the car up? The original BMW jack aint no good. And i cant imagine you will roll around with a blooming trolley jack in your boot!?!

The trolley jack i have just about fits under the back bumper to raise the car from the diff. The only other way is to fully lock the wheels either way and slip the jack under the arch to raise the front. Buts thats when im at home.

Trollel jack in the back mate, pain in the arse huh, but i think i'll be getting a sissor jack, they go low enough just not sure on the lifting power but sure it'll be fine

a can of tyre weld.

No jack fits under my car unless I can find a kerb cut to drive it up onto.

Scissor jack...is that the one where its hinged either side and lifts the load from the middle?

Yeah im just after suggestions for a quick wheel change on the side of the road if need be.

Is your car lowered 60mm?

A can of tyre weld?? That sounds a bit dodgy. Im assuming you cant rely on that for too long?

Its a right pain in the ass having the cars this low is it not? But it looks so damn nice!!! Even if you do find a kerb you got to find one that clears your front bumper first.

thats why kerb cuts are best, the bits where it lowers down for pedestrians. Mind you straddling your car over a zebra crossing kerb tends to be frowned upon by the police and general public. Its also why my splitter thing on the bottom of my standard bumper is hanging off lol.

And yes, tyre weld is only a temporary fix. But the way I drive and what my cars get used for, I replace punctured tyres every time, cant rely on a repaired tyre. Tyre weld gets you home and to the tyre shop though.

ps, my car is lowered... erm, about 100/80 ish at a guess.

scissor jack, yeah loads from the middle, looks low enough, spec says 95mm need to go out and measure.

i was lowered 60/40 but raised to 35 all round due to it being daily driver and getting it on my drive was a pain in the arse

A porsche 944 jack.
Its made from aluminium so is really light and is of the scissor variety.The handle is even aluminium !
Its better than the bmw one.

Nice one fellas. That porche jack jobby sounds lovely but probably cost an arm and a leg? Even so, where can i get hold of one? Do you have one?

Probably opt for the conventional scissor jack then. 95mm sounds perfect.

bmw jacks are badly designed anyway. If the cars on a sloping surface and the car slips sideways... this happens.

I cant stand the BM ones. Im chucking mine now after seeing that pic! You are right they are very badly designed.

???? bmw jack is fine for slammed E30's i've never had a problem with one just use it sensibly and i like mine low

tyre weld is good. some new cars come with it instead of a spare. lowered about 35mm all round, use the bmw jack to lift it enough yo get a better jack under there

I saw one on Ebay a while back, went for something like £60!

You could always carry a small peice of wood in the boot to drive onto to gain you an inch or two of clearance.

Think there is actually a can of tyre weld in the back of the 3, but never tried it though!!

Simian its been a while since I have been under an e30 but...

From the picture of the damage on your car, it looks like you have placed the BMW jack in the wrong place, I thought the correct place was underneath the front of the door panel, there is a reinforced bit there if my memory serves me correctly.

It "looks" as if you have jacked yours up under the wing near the "jacking point(that isn't a jacking point)" I could of course be talking total bollax.

agree jon, if it falls it should damage your door not your A panel!!

mine dropped but BM jack goes under with no problems, and if it dont have someone lift the car sligtly so you can get it under

I dunno, wasnt me that did the jacking... you could be right though, who knows...

I know a new wing is cheaper than a new door though so I cant complain.

agreed my bm jack was ok, even tho abit tough to lift the car, but mine striped all the tread in the process and is now shagged, so has to be replaced, just go down the scrapys, bound to be some about in some old motors

I havnt even got a spare wheel well any more, so i carry a tin of tyre weld or 2, 50 mph to the next kwik fit. lol

AA membership let them sort it out

Think i would much rather have the spare wheel and a scissor jack to be honest. BM jack is useless with tech2 side skirts or any sort of side skirts i would have thought although i have not checked to see.

So how does tyre weld work? Do patch up the puncher and pump the wheel up again or do you fill the tyre up with this stuff?

Ahhhh! Giggz there is a special bmw jack for tech 2's! bmw think of everything you see!

Mine is 60/40 and have not found a problem with using the original BMW jack.

Aaagh yes but do you have side skirts? I think SE skirts would be ok but Tech2 would be a whole different story maybe.

Mine is lowered 40/40 with a tech 2 kit, and i have a few cm's to spare im fairly sure. Kit isnt origional, so its a standard jack.
